After nearly 1 whole year of completely trouble free running, not getting out the Hawkeye or any tools apart from an oil & filter change, pulling my trailer, shifting crud, and generally working every single day, my disco 2 (facelift) TD5 has a little problem :-(

Last week I went to get in it an noticed the radio was on... thought nothing of it...

Yesterday, after driving, switched it off, removed the keys... radio stayed on and it wouldn't central lock, just kept beeping the horn once (like a door wasn't closed) so I just turned the radio off and left it.

Today, after driving (radio on) switched it off, removed keys, radio went off and it central locked OK from the remote fob. I then walked past it half n hour later & noticed that the radio was on ? I unlocked and locked it from the fob, this worked correctly but the radio wouldn't turn off, so I manually switched it off.

Sounds like a fault on the auxillary circuit ? I'll dig out the circuit diagrams and take a look, but has anyone had a similar problem ?

Every time I've had a problem with my Disco in the last 3 years, turns out at least a few people have always had the same problem :)

Thanks

Mat

rule out the auxiliary circuits relay (R7) by putting a bran new one instead cos it might be sticking... if no joy the ignition switch is suspect as well

Hi, I dug out the RAVE diagrams yesterday... I got the car to exhibit the fault, ie it turned the radio on on it's own, I then pulled out RL7 and the radio stayed on. The only way to get the radio to go off was to remove fuse F20 in the fuse box under the steering column, this is the permanent live connection to the radio. So it looks like the radio itself could be faulty ?

I can't see how this is connected to the fact that I'm getting the mis-lock beep from the central locking though, and I can't imagine it's two coincidental separate faults... I'll dig out the Hawkeye today and look at the door and bonnet sensors.

I would check that under-dash fuseboard for water ingress which is very common and causes all sorts of weird problems.

You won't see it till you pull the fuse box and split the casing (just a snap together effort).

IMO the radio is fubar nothing from the interior fusebox would cause such thing unless there's some short to supply on the auxiliary circuit.

Having looked at the circuit diagrams I concur.... I completely removed relay 7 and the radio was still on, the only feed to it was the permanent supply through FS20.

If i switch off the radio manually before turning the key off, the radio stays off.
