Mark - thanks for the reply
I assumed the motor would be earthed through its body and the two connections to the motor would be to power up and down?
As mentioned there is only a voltage measurment to one of the terminals when the switch is in the down position.
I will try a connection directly from a battery to check condition of motor, any other advice in this area would be greatly received.

i haven't had a look at a wiring diagram but i think the polarity is reversed to operate the motor in each direction, so the two wires, one should be + one - this will make the window go up, and visa versa on the wires to go down!

When I tested the pasenger side with a meter - neg.to earth there was a supply on each of the terminals separately, one when the swith was in up postion and on the other terminal when in the down?
what I don't know and can't seem to find is if there is a rwelay fro the front windows.
I can here a relay sound coming from thec passenger foot well, but wehen dropping the cover there seemed to be two units side by side but no sign of relays?

your correct Martin - the +ve changes depending on which way the switch is pressed, so both wires are +ve at different times. the electric windows have 2 relays, later models (after march 94) have a window lift control unit up behind the glovebox, not sure if this ecu replaced the relays or not?

Don't forget you can have a multimeter showing volts when you operate the switch but if you do not have amps then nothing will work!

regards

Dave

if theres a supply mate, chances are its the motor.......

I have the same problem. On every window! Although i've only tested to see if there is a power spply to the switches. On the switches there are 5 poles. 2 being negative...
The middle pole has power going to it... But when the switch is put in either direction, the power isn't received on the other pole. And it dissapears from the middle one.
Proper frustrating...
