Electric fan instead of viscous fan???

Hi all! I've just bought my first Landy - a Discovery 1 200 TDi - so have a lot to learn about these great vehicles!

The water temperature on mine stays at the very bottom of the gauge - I thought it was the sensor so I've changed that and after reading this thread think it may be the thermostat or the viscous coupling.

The airconditioning is not working and I think I'll be stripping it all out but I noticed the two fans it has in front of the A/C radiator.

Can I use these as engine cooling fans?

If so, I'll remove the viscous fan and wire these two up on a thermo switch with manual override. As the fans are in front of the A/C rad, will I need to remove the A/C radiator then mount them to the main radiator to do this?

Thanks in advance!

hi mate

yeah you should be able to fit the AC fans as a tfi doesnt need much cooling anyway

im no tdi expert, so perhaps someone can confirm.

anyway, make sure you mount you ac fans to the front of your main rad, as they are pusher fans.

normally you ony fit one 14" or 16" fan to a tdi rad, bu you might want to fit you
r two, but have one on the rad and one half on rad and half on intercooler, then you can use the fan to lower youir charge temps too when things are getting a bit hot.

you might be able to use your existing ac fan stemp switch if you can work out where it is and what temp it switches at...

cheers :)

Thanks very much! Now I just have to figure out how to remove the AC radiator - I hope it will come out through the grille opening!
