Egr valve replace or blank ? I'm just after some input on the pros and cons
Car is a 2005 freelander td4 sport
Clean out the manifold, gut the EGR and wipe clean the MAP sensor, the car will breath better after, and you should not get any black gunk after the above has been done, also you will get a better response from the car, remembering that all intercooler hoses, and EGR hose are in good condition.

I fitted a manifold with gutted EGR yesterday at our Nano meet.

MAP sensor and rubber seals must be removed before cleaning out.

Make sure you have a clean PCV filter as well.

No good just changing the EGR for a bypass one or cleaned out one as the manifold will still be gunked, up cleaning out the one i took off yesterday will put up some photos of how much gunk is in the EGR etc later.

I was going to remove manifold ect today but as usual the weather is crap, do you use any chemicals to clean the manifold or just jet wash
Also I haven't got a clue at the moment what filter it's got as I've seen there is a upgrade so hopefully I can get on with it tomorrow

Hi Cyrus200.
I use oven cleaner let that soak in because i have spares, but you could just let it do it's thing for an hour before jet washing it out, also scrap out as muck muck as possible before hand.

Here is the manifold and EGR i swapped out yesterday at our meet.

He had a little smoke after driving it off up the road, that would be the engine clearing it's throat/lungs so to speak after having surgery to clear the air ways :D

when you have your manifold change it can have a bit of a cough before clearing.

I'm not surprised either if your esophagus was full of gunky food like this below :eek:

Which ever you prefer mine is the later type.

Which ever you prefer mine is the later type.
Wow that's a lot of gunk I'm going to have to check mine I bet it's never been off for a deep clean 😆😆

The so called CV filter isn't so much of an upgrade, more a lazy way to reduce maintenance of the breather system.
The original filter keeps much more oil out the intake compared to the cyclone type that BMW swapped to on the later M47 engines. LR never implemented the "upgrade", probably because it caused more problems with blocking EGR valves, intake manifolds, and potentially blocked CATs too.

As I said nodge68 I don’t know what filter the car has it spent much of its life in Portugal (bought here then taken over )
