EGR Solenoid, lack of power.

Hello I need some advice!

Does the EGR solenoid have a function once the EGR valve has been removed?

I've got the famous lack of power, at 70mph on hills and accelerating from 30-40mph. Tried lots of things but the problem is still there.

Intercooler hoses have been changed, crank case breather cyclone mod fitted, turbo solenoid and vent filter changed. EGR valve removed and mod fitted. MAF tested by disconnecting and driving. Freelander starts fine and no smoke when under load.

Finally I removed the inlet manifold to clean it out and clean the MAP sensor. Then I noticed a split vacuum hose coming from the egr solenoid, see pictures. The hose going to the EGR mod is fine with no split and currenly disconnected. The split hose feeds in from another part of the system see picture 2.

The vacuum circuit needs to be complete even thought the egr solenoid is not in use - either blanked or connected. This being not the case would affect vacuum controlled features inc brake servo, boost etc.....

Looks like this split vac hose could be causing the lack of power then. The vacuum circuit will be compromised for sure, although the brakes seem fine. Hopefully power will return after fitting some new vac hoses, and a clean manifold.

Brakes are on the primary vacuum system, so aren't generally affected by a leak in the smaller secondary system pipes.

I've now replaced the vac pipes coming from the egr solenoid, cleaned out the inlet manifold and map sensor. Still got this bloody lack of power!! There are no warning lights on, no smoke, engine idles smoothly. Need to get diagnostics test carried out, I'm now suspecting a faulty remote fuel pump or other fuel delivery issue. Or the turbo itself is faulty. It's a right nightmare this power problem!

Did you replace the vac pipe to the boost control solenoid on the turbo?

No haven't yet! I should probably have a good look at those next.

I would changed the vac pipes that go over the top of the engine on the way to the boost control solenoid. It's not uncommon for them to split and crack unseen under the engine covers.

Changed the vac hose going into the turbo solenoid, but no change at all. Still struggling from 30-40mph and uphill, feels like a boost control problem similar to what I had in another turbo diesel car. I did clean the MAP sensor but maybe it just needs a new one.
