Hi I have a defender wolf and am considering removing/blanking the egr however there is a electronic control unit fitted so I'm guessing its not a strait mechanical exercise. Any pointers gratefully received.
Thanks
Stuart

The plug is mostly irrelevant. We used to just make a small plate of metal to replace the gasket/spacer with and a little exhaust sealant gooped on to stop leaks. Looks unmolested on the outside (keeps the grownups happy), but stops the nightmare of them getting gunged up. Mil vehicles spend most of their lives idling, so the EGR is a very common fail point.

I'll be doing this shortly and the harness to it is a separate part and can just be removed, or left there for looks.
The actual electrical kit is in the black chequer plate box between the seats, which I am retaining as a mount for a Pelicase.
The only part that I have not decided on is which blanking kit to use because the recommended supplier is out of stock, but I have a few months, so no problem yet.
Do you have REMUS matting on your seatbox?

Hello

I’m a newbie here and just recently having purchased a wolf have been looking into removing the EGR.
So any further thoughts and advice before I take the plunge and start disconnecting - then post away here.
Cheers.
Jay

Simplest way is a ball bearing in the vac pipe to the egr actuator, no vac = no functioning egr.
As its a mechanical engine you can pretty much do it anyway you want.

Removal of emissions equipment may cause issues at MOT time, I doubt that there is any real benefit in removing it.

On the 300 the short hose between the egr inlet on the intake pipe and the inlet manifold delaminates due to the heat of the egr gases, this was pre egr coolers, LR did not get egr coolers until he td5 15p engine approx 2002.
