HI
I have a leaking EGR cooler on my range rover TDV6. The garage is telling me its a major job but I think i will change them myself.
Im looking for any advice on removing these and if its easier to remove the egr valve and cooler in one piece or if they need splitting.
Ive searched and seen some links but just want to be sure its doable without too many issues.
Thanks in advance
John

its easier to blank off the egr s and get a software fix
To remove the EGR cooler and valves you need to dissconect the water inlet and outlet pipes and the pipe to the manifold and then 3 bolts on the side of cooler and the pipe from the exhaust to the cooler. sounds easy but you have limited space and need hands the size of a babies but with the strength of tarzan. when replacing the new one the clip that holds the pipe from the exhaust to the cooler is the most frustrating thing to get back on properly and there are replacement clips that you can buy that are like a jubilee clip but specially made for the job.

I have done them on my Disco 3 .2.7 TDv6
also when you do get them off make sure the plastic valve has not broken up and the spring has not restricted the coolant flow on the crossover pipe

I will order these clips as well. If i was to block off the egr how can i get a software update? I have asked this in garages already and they say they won't do this. Can i get a flash drive type plug to do this or does someone have to do it with a computer ?

thanks

Garages will not do a remap to eliminate the EGR because it's illegal. I'm not sure, but with the new CT here in France I suspect you may run into trouble getting it through the test. Certainly the emissions testing on my Transit last week was much more rigorous than in the past.
