Well my EGR blank kit for my Defender TD5 arrived 2 days ago so i set about spraying penetrating oil on the appropriate bolts and continued for the two days, today i set about installing the kit and the inevitable happened, both bolts snapped flush with the manifold even with applying ample heat to areas and only using a small allen key as to not apply to much pressure. The rest of the day was spent trying to get the manifold off with the same problems occurring so i've admitted defeat and getting her towed to Strathearn engineering tomorrow..... :blub:

I got lucky I guess. 2-3 days of liberal silicon oil and the bolts undid. I was thinking "any moment now" for them to snap until they'd freed off a couple of turns but all went well.

Diff.

Yeah, it's surprising what can happen when you use proper releasing oil.

I use "Plusgas" or "Easol" these days.

I'll never know why people insist on using WD40, all it seems to be good for is as a garage air freshener!

Glad it all went well for ya.

YepYep i used plusgas and did it with a stone cold engine because i thought the manifold and bolts would heat up at different rates and cause problems.dont know if that is actually what happens but it worked a treat so was all good glad yours worked out in the end.

one of the allen type bolts rounded of internally on my td5,so to save a lot of grief i decided to get a disc turned to plug the other end of the pipe, the part that clamps to the EGR valve itself.job done.pipe still fitted just in case EGR valve needs to be re fitted at any time.;)
