ebgine blown

Won't be able to put a td4 in it. Too much to change. Auto, all electrics are different etc.
 
My v6 engine was replaced by a main dealer. The engine, auto and ird comes out as one piece, then they replace the engine, and put it all back as one piece. Now bearing in mind this was a main dealer, with all the knowledge etc and all the tools/ramps etc needed, they charged 10 hours labour.

I would assume an independent would be simular, but at a cheaper hourly rate. Also a few other bits will be needed like coolant and oil etc.

Don’t know mate. But if it were me I’d want to find out their address, and look them up on street view to see the building. How big, what cars they’ve got. See if they’ve got a web site etc. what sort of work they normally do etc. All the normal stuff to judge what they’re like. With that size of money I’d want to visit them too.

I have a v6 too. Forked out for an auto replacement 3 years go. If it were to happen again, then I’d seriously think about scrapping it. The money your about to spend could go towards another Freelander. You could sell your current Freelander as parts, eg: auto, alternator, starter motor, steering pump, interior/seats, wheels, ird, rear diff, vcu and props etc on ebay.

A td4 (auto) would be my choice. With the money your about to spend (£1750), and a years fuel saving (for me £450 as the td4 does nearly twice the miles to the gallon the v6 does) etc your half way towards another betterer vehicle. The diesel option is always more reliable in Freelanders. The petrol’s are good motors, but suffer with faults more. They’re all fixable, but can come back again. And the cost to keep the average petrol on the road is less than the diesels, when it comes to Freelanders. Hence if I was in your position I’d have £1750 engine replace + £450 fuel saved in the first year, towards a diesel Freelander. That’s before flogging off yer v6.

It’s a tough decision, but I’d go for the diesel.

edit: I'd be looking for a garage that has changed this engne before, and it's obvious they have. Like someone who deals in LR's or rovers.
