Series 3 ebay injun

thinking about this, might be ok if what the seller says is right, £475 for a recon s3 diesel rusty on the outside hopefully surface only. overpriced or fair?

agreed, that's what I am worried about, chap seems to have good feedback though.

You don't get much for that money nowadays, so i would buy it

If you can see it first i would to see if you can turn it over by hand etc

Priced about right for a rebuilt engine but I would personally have liked to have seen it running for that kind of money. Might still need fettling and money spent.
Two questions in my mind....Wonder how long it has been stood? If they did such a thorough rebuild, why was it not painted at that point.

I've been watching an engine on eBay that's in slightly worse external condition than that, but can't bring myself to take a chance on it. Too many questions that might not be fully answered.

If the pump works its worth half of that on its own.. If I went for it, it would have to have a full strip down anyway just to check everything.
Series enjins leak. They leak a lot. How the effin jeff do you get one that rusty unless its had no oil in it and its been stood in a field.

Oh and dont ask for it to be pelleted. The bits will be too small to put weld back together.

To me it looks like it has been recently pulled from a gearbox after been stood a long time.

Might be reconditoned but looks like its not run in a few years, would need opening up to check it out for sure.

Looking at how rusty the bottom pulley is I'd say it's been stored for a while. Having only experienced rebuilding 300tdi's are series parts that expensive?

Core plugs on exhaust side look very corroded , I thought front timing case crank oil seal holder was normally refitted with screws after being replaced , this one has rivets in it.
Injector pipes look well corroded also.

X1 it looks like it's been stored out of a vehicle for a long time. Hose connections rusty. Alloy bits are corroded due to being exposed the air. I'd guess it's been in that shed for 10 years plus. As stated it's worth that price easily even if it needs further work. I'd seriously consider going for it.

the steve parker one is tempting at £480 plus shipping. wouldn't have any qualms buying from them. they did my 110 when my folks lived near there.

What's up with your existing engine?

failed mot on emissions - hopefully just a timing issue - but the bolt holding the ratchet thing on the chain tensioner sheared when I was putting it back together. bit of a pita but not in any rush to get it sorted. the idea of a quick smoke and leak free fix was enticing.

just thinking aloud here, can you strip an engine whilst it is in the car? seems to me its on a ready made bench - assuming the mounts are solid - and all round access should be fairly easy if the landy is sans front panel and wings
