Ebay - Auction or Classified??

I'm planning on selling my Defender and just wondered what your experience of selling on eBay was.
I don't actually know how much it is worth so thinking an auction would be best??

If you use an auction, put a realistic reserve on it. Look at what they are selling for on eBay or auto trader to give some idea. I've sold stuff on line and there are some real idiots out there who think their winning bid allows them to negotiate when they turn up. Be honest in the description and they can't then point out undisclosed faults.

Have sold many times on eBay and, as Col, be very clear on the description stating firm price/genuine Landy details/no tyre kickers et al [don't stand for fools]. Have also sold on Car and Classic. This site appears to be used by higher quality buyers/sellers and is a very popular site amongst us classic car guys https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/list/28/

Personally, I would not use an Auction House for a Land Rover...you'll most likely end up with a poor sale price plus vendor fees. People/buyers go to standard type auctions to buy believing they're buying at below market price.

Facebook appears to get some good results...but, there's a huge number of Land Rovers for sale there so you'll be mixing it with a lot of competition.

Three things that always helps when selling a car...1. clean and polish the living daylights out of the Landy, inside/out, engine bay detail and a full underside clean, 2. take a big quantity of good quality/detailed pics. A properly clean car with good pics always helps sell, 3. Give the Landy a thorough service...all oils/fluids/filters + a good tidy up.

Documentation also helps with a sale. Even if you do your own servicing, get as many receipts together as possible. When I bought mine, the seller claimed he had done this, that and the other but no proof, he clearly hadn't done much of what he said. Didn't matter to me too much cos I was going to redo everything anyway.

Other thing to bare in mind is your locaiton, the more difficlut it is to get to you the less poeple will bid on the item.
So maybe offer in the advert to meet halfway or some other mutually acceptable meeting spot.

Other thing is anything will sell if the price is right, it might not be as much as you want/need but if it sellls and is gone?

i have just sold a 110 on Ebay, listed it on a Sunday Eve, for 7 dats, any auction ending on a weekend seems to do better.

Put a reserve on it which cost an extra £10 however means you know what it will make minimum. Started it at £0.99

Think to list it was around £25

It made reserve by Monday and sold for way more than i was expecting.

It is a sellers market out there, and on the bay it will probably make more than you think.
On facebook or an advert you have to set the price.

Good pics, thorough description, be honest and then just put a foot note on mine saying remember you are bidding to buy etc, not negotiate

What wheels do you have fitted? It may just be the lighting and shadow but they look to be deeper than standard HD (wolf) wheels (I have a set fitted to my series) have they been banded?
