Having sorted out recurring fault,, overhauled valve block, new pressure switch, renewed airbags, new compressor, checked throughout for leaks etc etc etc ..I am watching height indicator lights every time I start up, and get butterflys if standard height indicator flashes for what seems to me an absolute age ( reality is 2-3 mins or about 30 secs reverse off drive and get about 1/4 mile down road before standard light is constant
c )..... what would anybody say was "normal" length of time for vehicle to come to standard level height after being left overnight in access mode..is it instant ( like 123 done!) or could a couple of minutes or so be considered normal. Everything seems OK once car is "up" and its not sinking to bump stops at any stage.....???

It should come up within about 15 secs maximum I would say.

Does the vehicle hold height when you park and leave it in standard height??

If you dont have a leak or anything then I reckon you will have a worn pump seal. this can easily be replaced with a new one bought online.

15 for me too, change your filter (or at lest look at it) and you can open it up and look inside (i think) to see if it is full of gunk, or blocked its a cheaper option, and so a good place to start

which model year do you have ?

I went through months of worry trying to find leaks and just waiting on a hard fault (which to be fair, never happened )
Changed to coils in the end - best move I ever made
No more worry and handling is way better than it ever was on air

Now before you all start - I know a lot of you swear by air and that's fine by me but I'll stick with my coils, thanks very much :p

sorry for my transparency ...
when you change to coils , so you're changing your range rover to a lada ... or to regular jeep ..
this car ( p38 ) is famous because it has some specifications that other cars don't have ... so how can you change its majesty ?
with regards
charbel

As I have already mentioned, there are different opinions and changing to coils suits my needs best
Can you tell me how many coil converted range rovers you have driven to come to the conclusion that it drives like a Lada ?

As for being famous for it's air suspension, sadly I think infamous is nearer the mark

i agree with both of the above, its a cool feature. Touch wood mines been ok (about the only thing that has), but at least getting rid of it is another thing not to go wrong.

You said in your post that you got a new compressor. Is that a brand new one from LR or a second hand one, new to you. If its s/hand I'd say the compressor seal is gone. If it is a BNIB compressor then it sounds like your air tank is leaking. Start with checking the drain plug ,my classic had a lovely little leak there, then move on to the connection and air line out of it. Then in the engine bay check for leaks in the line into and out of the air dryer, my P38 leaked there.
BTW I agree with the other guys, it should take about 15 secs to lift when every thing is right. 2 to 3 plus minutes means leaks, compressor or empty reservoir in that order.
As for coils, each to their own, I love the air suspension, its brilliant for towing - its like having a pick up hitch! But having gone through a series of hard faults until I got an EAS kicker (I had the same recurrent fault - pressure switch not changing state) and got it sorted, I can totallly understand somebody switching over to coils for the peace of mind.

Model is P38 1998 4.6 HSE (Ltd Edition according to V5).......having used car today at regular intervals the levelling/hight lights stabilised within seconds. When parked car stays up on its legs. Overnight the car seems to be up and level (ish) in the morning, it certainly hasn't sunk onto bumpstops by morning, so I am slightly perplexed as this would indicate no leaks.... but that is when seems to take longer for EAS to set itself and settle. Once up no problems moving between height seither automatically or manually!! Compressor is new this week.

You overhauled the valve block, did you make sure you seated the air line to the tank completely correctly back into the valve block, i.e. push it all the way in until you felt it stop??

SpudH pointed out something I missed and that is you have a new compressor. Was it brand new from LR or new from eBay sorta thing?? If it was from eBay then I still standby what I said above.

As per Wills and previous post, is it a brand new compressor?
Your first post didn't say how many times its happened.
Its perfectly normal for it to take a while to come up everytime the system has been drained, ie after fitting bags or a compressor.
If the first spin after a system drain is a short journey it might not have had a chance to fill the reservoir the first time and would be slow to come up the next time. Especially if you use access mode or park on uneven ground. It can take a healthy compressor up to ten min to fully raise the car from the bump stops and fill the reservoir after a system drain.
It is adviseable to leave a door open (to disable the EAS) for a few minutes when you start up after a system drain to allow the tank be filled before the bags.
