has anybody bought one of the eas kicker's off ebay? their about £200, oblong, black with a lcd screen on them. supposed to plug inb and clear an eas fault. want to buy one but dont know if theyre any good.
cheers guys.

they do exactly as it says, it will read and clear the eas fault but obviously not fix the underlining problem. You could try Range Rover EAS Reset Tools was a great site for helping me when i had problems, it has the software and cable for sale you need to read faults, clear them and setup your suspension, is alot cheaper than buying a kicker! just a thought as was i was thinking of buying a kicker a while ago. hope this helps.

You would be better off buying the cheaper EAS interface than the Kicker and saving a bit more cash and buying the Faultmate. Although the cheaper Faultmate is "Vehicle Specific"-it only works on the first car it is plugged in to and can't be used on any other- it will give you full diagnostics for ALL the systems on your motor. Would also help if you decide to sell your motor to "Throw In" the Faultmate as part of the deal.

Hi Kong,

i didn't see what vehicle you have, but I don't agree with the previous poster. the EAS kicker looks to be the simpler, cheaper product according to the Blackbox website.
a faultmate kit for eg p38 will cost 571 euro and the eas kicker for same is 200 euro. I'm sure there's a massive difference if functionality but if its just eas fixing you're after then i'm sure the kicker would be fine. incidentally i have an unused one sitting in my garage. would be happy to get rid of it if you're interested.

V*rob-you have missed what I was trying to say, which is-if you are just lloking to buy a low cost EAS tool, go for the one on Egay. Several members on the forum have found them suitable for what they want. This piece of kit is cheaper than the Blackbox Kicker. If you want to buy just the kicker for around £200, would you not be better waiting till you can afford the extra and buy a Faultmate which will cover everything-just read the non EAS related problems on here which require diagnostics. However if your need is urgent, the Egay unit will reset EAS faults and clear them (Unless they are "Hard" faults). I have found the Rovacomlite indespensible.

irish rover, sorry, i clearly did not get your point. wasn't aware of the other units other than the kicker. hey ho. mines still available if anybody wants it.

hi rob, i've got a 2000 p38 vogue, and have had the usual eas faults, easily cleared by my local specialist. I just thought it might be easier to have a kicker so i can clear future faults straight away.
cheers mate.

i'm sure storey wilson Range Rover EAS Reset Tools does this eas kicker and i'm not sure if he provides a diagram to build yr own, or he sells the cable cheap and software, might be worth looking here -:: P38 Spares - Land Rover and P38 and Range Rover parts, EAS air suspension airbags and diagnostic kickers and faultmate MSV::- for the lead and here SourceForge.net: Range Rover - EAS - Reset.

there is also a diagram on storey's site to build the cable. you will also need a usb to rs232 adapter if your laptop doesnt have the correct port. i got one for about £6 from local computer shop for my lpg cable like this one USB to RS232 - USB Converter Cable: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

just seen the ppc version of the software so depending on what cables you can purchase this would be a very usefull tool if you have a ppc device!!! also look on the storey wilson site for the free eas suite download!!!

all this should come in at less than £200 but probably isnt as mobile as a kicker device but i would rather carry a laptop that can do more things than just reset the suspension and i'm sure you can pick up a cheap lappy to use as a eas machine, and then you can catch up on landy zone for free every time you visit McDonalds!!!

I use an old Dell Latitude that my Nephew gave me for use with the Rovacom. Unfortunately, when I came to use the Rovacom at Xmas in the U.K. I only had my normal laptop with me and I found out there is no serial port on it. Had to chase around like a lunatic to get a USB to serial patch lead-finished up getting one from Maplins.
As Gav says, there is plenty of info available on the Storey Wilson kit and also several posts on the forum regarding it's capabilities if you do a search on EAS prob's & fixes.

would that have been when you bought it over for me m8 :D
when you coming back over john?

Actually, there are 3 lower cost options: from more expensive to least is 1.EAS Kicker 2. EAS Buddy (from RSWSolutions) and 3. the open-source sw (also RSW or from Souceforge.net).

The disadvantage to the sw is that you need a laptop whereas the kicker and the Buddy can be carried in the glovebox and used virtually anywhere. The difference between the Kicker and the Buddy is that the Kicker has a display and will give fault codes wheras the Buddy only clears hard faults so you're not locked on the bumpstops.

The open-source sw will give all the functionality a Testbook/Rovacom(Faultmate)/Autologic would for the EAS system: reading and clearing faults, forcing mode changes, and stteing heights (calibration). All you really need is an old serial cable and a couple of small spade connectors if you're careful and can read instructions - though getting a GBP3.50 OBD connector is not unwise.

I tend to agree with Irishrover's advice above. If I had to do it again, I'd download the EAS sw and make a cable for nought - and save for a Faultmate so that I could deal with the rest of the silly electronics.

BTW, very good info for dealing w/all sorts of RR probs on rangerovers.net (in case someone does not yet know)
