I've never really understood this guarantee. Does it mean if I die the guarantee expires with me? Is it Mr Arnott's life? It could be the car's life but what happens if Wammer's unacknowledged love child finds it in a barn near Poitiers in 2065? He could have it running in 15 minutes. Does it mean the bags themselves? A big hole in the bag would be the end of its life, so does that mean that it has reached the end of its life and the guarantee ceases? In that case, it's not a strong selling point.

Life time guarantee is the life time of the product. Once they fail due to wear and tear, the guarantee is over.

Whilst I nearly ****ed myself when thinking of The Wammers Love Child - the key word is Defects.....

They are only covered for defective manufacturing or components - if the bag pops due to off road damage your not covered, but if the cap pops off on the M1 due to poor crimping/clamping/whatever you can claim a new one!!

Always check the small print, and leave the receipt in the car for Wammers Junior to use in the event of failure.!!!

It's as long as you the buyer, own the car. The next owner can't claim on it. With the price of them when you take into account what they cost to produce. Manufacturers profit and outlay to make them and retailers profit and Vat. You have already paid for the free set, if the first ones fail, in the initial outlay. If they are going to fail through a manufacturing fault, which is all that's covered, then it is odds on going to be in the first year. The Dunlops have the same warranty by law, so not a lot of difference other than £68.00.

I did not know that...!!

Looks like Wammers Junior would be out of luck then!! :D

Bit like my guaranteed for life flexible specs i paid a bloody fortune for. You know the ones you could tie almost in knots and they sprung back to shape. Mine fell apart as i put them on one morning about eighteen months later. Never been stood on twisted or mal-used. Took them back under their life time warranty. They have broken that's the end of their life. Is what i got from the opticians. So bull**** to life time warranties i say.:D:D

It's a little like the Kwikfit. Let us fit new pads and linings and get free pads and linings for life jobby. They know most people will sell the car before the next change is due. It only applies to the present owner, so you get charged over the odds for pads and shoes and think you have a bargain. Think again.

I happy with my cheap make ones , if I get a few years out of them, the car would of been changed of broken in other ways by the time they fail.

New rear springs arrived yesterday. Made a start removing the old ones this evening, only to find the first one is corroded in place at the top. Rangerovers.net suggests this is common and to simply use brute force to remove it. Trouble is I can't get any purchase on the top of it to get it loose. Any tips?

Bar under wheel arch inner and apply pressure. Prepare it by applying plenty of Eazit and letting it soak. Try tapping, and i do mean tapping, don't deform the metal, around the housing first after the Eazit is applied. Repeat as needed it will come out. Eventually. :D:D

Glad you got the second set of airsprings, whatever happens it will feel much better. Please do the compressor test that wammers has explained in the how to's. Or even, just disconnect the airhose from the tank, let it drain, reconnect it and leaving a door open start the car and time how long the compressor takes to fill the tank (ie until compressor switches off). If its 8 mins or under your compressor is like new. if its 15 mins or under its acceptable. More than that and you have a problem. Incidentally, don't neglect the suspension bushes, they play a surprisingly big part in giving a Range Rover its legendary smooth ride. Poly bushes are harder, sometimes squeaky but offer tighter body control, rubber bushes are more compliant.

And just to chime in on this debate

OMG. Are they that much better than the Dunlops at Island 4x4 (£200 for all 4)?

you all know that company we love to hate? I got a set of 4 Britpart springs about five years ago for under a 100 pounds. Still fine and the ride was really lovely until I changed the dampers to supposed original spec by Boge which unfortunately are HARSH.

I actually have to go buy myself a crowbar (or seemingly a wrecking bar) as I don't have anything like that in my arsenal of DIY tools :)

300mm, 460mm or 600mm... I'm thinking 600mm :5breddevil:

Sorry, already picked up a 600mm.. glad I did too, not sure the neck of the bigger one would have fit. Anyway, worked a treat! A little leverage and the spring popped right out. Happy days. Will finished the job next time I have a bit of daylight and I'm not working! Prob Sat morning now.

Good job. :):)

So, got the other old spring out with my new favourite tool. Have fitted the new springs, but the top doesn't seem to sit as "high" even with the R-clip in place. The hole for the air-line seems to be sunk down, making it almost impossible to get the air line to go in properly. I'm amazed people have said the rears are easier as I've found them a total bitch compared to the fronts, with the ridiculous finger-sized gap you have to work with at the top of the spring.

Anyway, I have the air lines in as best as I can, but I'm not really sure they're in properly. The car's ticking over, but not a great deal is happening. That said, it took an age for the fronts to inflate, so I'm gonna give it a while longer before I decide the air lines aren't in right.

You did of course clean the turret out before fitting the new unit. A bit of grease smeared around may have helped. Hopefully it will settle when it gets weight on it.

Yeah, it's not so much that the spring won't go that high.. if I hold it up, the top protrudes out as much as the old one, with room to fit the air line, etc. But as soon as I let it rest, it drops back down again on the R-clip.

Left it running for an hour, nothing. Bags as saggy as an old womans pups. Have unclipped the bottom of the springs, compressed them back into their original shape, held them up and re-fitted the air lines - bit happier with how they've gone in now. Trouble is I feel like as soon as I try to clip the bottom in place, it's going to sit all wrong at the top again. I've had enough tonight, losing light and hungry for dinner. Will tackle again in the morning. Unless anyone in the Canvey Island area fancies having a bash? :p

I seat them with a little squirt of the airline. But then again not everyone has an airline.Think you need to look at your compressor.
