P38A EAS Found the problem

I bypassed the fuse on the pump to make it run, when I thought I had some air in it, pulled the bypass wire, and stopped the pump and engine and heard a hissing someplace, cant see it at the top any place (washing up liquid and water spray) so it below that some place, I cant get under there right now, as I am sick, have a friend coming over to look for me and crawl about under the RR to look tomorrow

Will I have to reset it if the leak is fixed and I get air into the system (with the bypass fix)
 
Pretty much overhauled the block a few years ago, new O rings and collects and all that, all the top pipes coming out seem fine, its lower down, I cant get that far down, I have appendicitis off work sick, so I don't want to be stupid and start crawling around under the RR
 
The leak sounds lower that the block, like its near the bag, but its not the Colette at the top of the bag, no bubbles coming out from that
 
how old are the airbags kidda??
maybe not sealing properly at the bottom of the bag, have you done any off roading in mud or any terrain where it could have picked up something in the bottom of the bag?
appendicitis isn't nice at all, my better half had hers taken out last November, we still aren't over it... Or is that heard the end of it?:confused:
 
No I am just a week into it now, but I have the new type of bag a few years ago the Arnott ones all around new
 
Check carefully the Front Right air bag and pipework thereto......if you remember the fault that came up was FR Height Reading incorrect (or something similar)...if that side is leaking and the system cannot maintain a height on that corner, it could throw a height reading fault.

seems the hiss is from left front below the block and pump
 
I found my problem was caused by, of all things, an exhaust! :eek:

Or to be more precise, a rusty original exhaust back box. The pipe leading to the drivers side back box was blowing at the top, so likely the long run from Prestwick at the start of the month has managed to melt the airline from the block to the air tank (or resevoir of we wanna be posh :D). I undid the pipe at the tank & removed it up to about half way along the chassis on the passenger side, then cut it. I re-routed it half way along rather than go all the way up & over the rear axle between the chassis & the body (too damn sore at the minute). Working fine for now and still got about 20 metres of pipe. I got it at local hydraulics shop. Fifteen quid plus vat I think.

It's possible the line to that bag has chafed somewhere and the pressure finally got it. If so, PM me and let me know what length you need. I'll post some out to you.

Exhaust on diesel is only on the driver's side.

Not a lot to rub on on the diesel. The diesel bangs about in the engine bay like a carrot in the Albert Hall.

Saint found the leak, its the air dryer, could be the collet, might just replace the air dryer cost the same as a collet lol, unbelievable that all them problems because of a simple leak!!!

Hmmmm, my leak was caused by all of them problems :D

Apparently, it's a well known cause of EAS failure... A leaking exhaust melting the airline o_O Really???

Still, good spot finding the leak. George dropped the bank end a couple of times until I wiggled the pipes. Now she sits fine. Thinking back, perhaps I should have got one of those bottle brushes, but a small one, and poked it in the airline orifice to clean any dust :confused:

It's all good.... And things like this cause weak people to remove air and put on spr.... sp... sp... aaak, that word again... Can't say it :p

Hope you're feeling better bud. Nothing worse than constant pain :(
 
I found the old block I had, kept it in the shed (you never know when you might need it for some reason) anyway found a new collet in the box with some other bits so I will get my son to do that, thanks for asking how I am, I am on the mend, but its slow, have another 2 weeks off work, will be glad when I am back

Can understand how the compressor would appear weak if the drier was leaking. But cannot understand the hissing from drier when compressor has stopped. High pressure air should be evacuated from galley and drier when diaphragm valve drops as compressor stops. There should be nothing in drier to leak.
 
it was showing open valves on the diagnostic, I am not pretending I know whats going on, but all I know is it was coming from there seems to be passing the collet, maybe Saint can explain?
