Eas fault keeps occuring really need help

Hi I am hoping someone might be able to help me out!!!! I have a range rover p38,2000 and about a week or so after i bought it an EAS fault came up on the dash (no speed restriction though)and the usual 4 lights remained on.
I took it to my local dealer who changed i think the re-lay in fuse box and said see how it goes, no more than 4 weeks later the same happended. So I took it back and I had the height sensor replaced as he said this was the next least cost option he could think of.

Again no more than 3 weeks on and the same has happended, can anyone help as although I know very little about the EAS system. I can't seem to think that surely if they plug into the system faults this should tell them what is causing the fault, I don't want to waste more money for this to happen again in 3-4 weeks!! I am happy to pay as long as I know it has repaired the fault for all!!!

Do a search for EAS faults,make a brew then sit back for a lot of reading!!
Your location mght help......lots of bods on here have the software and lead to reset faults and tell you what the prob is.

Then fleabay for a lead or make one up if you're able to.

You can buy EAS software and a lead off fleebay for under £20, or an EAS Kicker for about £100 - these are invaluable bits of kit as they will save you a fortune of taking car to the stealers to plug in at £80 a pop or so. Suggest doing that and getting it set up before you spend any more. Also, you can fit a manual override that you can pump up the airbags yourself if they drop to the bump stops, while you are sorting the system out.

There are people who will say just rip the air system out and replace with springs, but I think it takes away a lot of the cars character as the EAS system is great when it works!! Bear in mind that all the P38s are old now, and the airbags will become cracked and worn and need changing within 5-8 years of new - have yours ever been changed? You can get a set for about £200.
But before you rush about spending loads of dosh, do yourself a favour and get the EAS software and lead, or the EAS Kicker, and take it from there. Lots of knowledgeable people on the forum who will help you with the settings when you get the kit and the software.

If you download the EAS software from www.rswsolutions.com get the cable and plug into your OBD2 socket, it will tell you the cause of the problem.
Incidently all 4 lights should not be on, only the one for the level currently selected or one flashing and one constant as it moves from one height to another with the flashing light going out when the new level is reached.

Thanks will give this a try and see what messages come up on the system first, no I don't think the airbags have been changed but the dealer reckons there is no problem with these and no pressure is being lost??? All 4 lights have only remained on since the EAS fault.

Ok the 4 lights on is normal with the fault condition you have. I would suspect a height sensor. Get underneath and unplug each sensor in turn, you may find, as I did, that water has got into the connector. If you do find a wet connector, dry it out, wash off with a contact cleaner spray (NOT WD 40) and re-connect. The fault will probably not go away after this until you clear it with the EAS software. In my case the software stated "front offside height sensor reading out of range" or words to that effect. I think it's a good idea to put a generous smear of silicone grease around the joint where the plug goes into the socket to waterproof it.

Did the dealer tell you what the fault code was? That would be a good place to start.

I found that my local specialist knew next to nothing about the EAS, declaring it to be fine when asked to inspect it, despite the fact that the airbags are perished and leaking!

I did a lot of reading, downloaded the software and bought a lead so at least I know what's causing the problems when I get the EAS fault message.

Having said that, knowing what the EAS is reporting as a fault is only half the battle since a lot of different things can cause particular error messages.

There's a lot of help available on here and online though so don't panic!
