Hi all, I know your all sick of reading about EAS but any help would be great.
I have a 2001 2.5 autobiography with 106k miles on it.
The EAS has faulted before and i fixed it with the EAS unlock software but it faulted again and I found the battery to only be about 10 volts and was told this could cause faults on start up, not enough voltage to power all ECUs, so this was replaced.
The car was down at the access level and Ive got the slow 35mpg warning sign on the dash.
The compressor sounds to be working away, believed to be still original, but not going up.
Im tempted to just change it to the springs but was wondering what people thought of the reconditioned units out of mm4x4?
And would this fix it?
Thanks

mark

What do the faults read on the EASUnlock software??...(note to self to contact Datatek for a copy...)

Whilst the EAS is a pain in the butt...as it is in theory a very simple system, just goes wrong a lot.....the temptation to coil it is very strong.....

Get the ECU on the EASUlock software clear faults, re-start and then read any faults and let us know what they are....you never know the Wammer and Datatek (who are with doubt geniuses on the EAS) among others, may be able to point you in a direction to find the fix....

Coils are truly a last resort on a P38 IMHO

Thanks for the reply.
At the minute it isnt reading any faults, even though i have the slow 35mph on the dash, which makes me think compressor, but the general fault is valve stuck open or closed
Cheers

Start at the beginning. The compressor might be running but is it producing any air worthy of note. Take it off it's mounts (three 10mm), disconnect the blue pipe underneath and see if you can hold your thumb over it, whilst it's running. If you can then you need to replace or refurbish it.

Not sure about the airbags but they were checked only a few months ago so hoping they are still ok.
Took the compressor off this morning and yep i can put my finger over the connection when running so got a reconditioned unit ordered up.
Cheers

You could just change the Piston seal and liner for the princely sum of £30-£40 or there abouts with good results too....

I guess a recon/refurb unit should come with a warranty/guarantee so if it goes pear shaped, you can atleast have some come back.

I'd replace the seals rather than a refurbed compressor( £15 against £150), I presume a refurbed compressor has naff after-market seals and won't last any longer than a DIY seal replacement?

Cheers guys, didnt know those were options or possible, but I needed it working and faultless for a few months.
Recond compressor landed today, fitted 5 mins later and 5mins later its up, happy days

The most likely reason your compressor gave up is that your airsprings are leaking. they have a design life of 7/8 years 80K miles, eventually the become porous and perished.
Put it up to full height and have a look at the bellows if they look at all cracked or perished you need to replace.
