Hi folks, i am making up a battery isolator switch to fit to my earth cable that goes from my battery to the transmission. The cable is 10m diameter and i need a terminal with an m6 hole in so i can bolt it to one side of the isolator switch. Can anyone recommend anywhere decent to get one? Ebay ones all seem to be too small?

Non-automotive cable sizes are normally determined by the CSA (Cross Sectional Area) and lugs are identified by the CSA followed by the diameter of the hole, these lugs are available from any electrical wholesaler or auto-electrician.

I am at a loss as to why you want to isolate the earth to the transmission????????

If the starter motor doesn't have a good earth it won't work, and thieves will try to bypass the positive side. Basic anti theft device;)

@ JM- My 90 only had the earth to the transmission till i put one engine to chassis and chassis to battery inorl.

Wired up like that the earth will try to find another earth path and as already stated, there are several alternatives that may well get hot when the starting current is applied to them. If you are going to isolate the earth then do it to the main earth from the battery, not just one branch.
Much better just to wire the switch up properly and if you want provide a (very low) fused supply for the alarm etc. For the past 25-years I have always used an FIA master switch on my LR's and always isolate the Pos.

vehicle wiring products you will get lugs.
The starter motor will get an earth from somewhere. Usually the neg lead goes to the chassis before the transmission. I have seen handbrake cables melt and arcing from throtle cables as well.

didnt think i was being stupid, just go straight to the chassis ?

Still not entirely certain what you are trying to do but assuming you are trying to isolate the battery earth you need to do it all and not just one leg.

Ideally you will have a main Neg cable between the battery & chassis and also a link to the engine/transmission. Possibly a third (smaller) one which provides a decent bond to the bulkhead & bodywork. Assuming you have at least two of these links and they use a point on the chassis as a common earth point (usually on the outrigger behind the battery-box) this is the point you need to break the earth, between the battery Neg terminal and the earth point. If you only have a link directly from the battery to the transmission I recomend you fit a chassis strap as well, I expect you will see a marked improvement.
