Hi v8 people
I drive a 03 disco2 v8,& I love it-even my pocket is`nt suffering as much as every wone said it would.Or am I just kidding my self ?????:).
E85---85% etanol & 15% petrol---can I use this in my disco ? or can a converstion be done on the engine to make this possible??
Converting to gas where I live costs about £4500 & no sub from the government,so what about E85?---Is it used in England?

yes thats right,in norway we have 25% vat.& tax on taxes ,pluss the are not many companies doing the converstions.

Hi c2d2, I used to have friends in Norway - what a great country & people though I've not visited since '96. Many members on here will no doubt disagree(!) but my advice is don't go for LPG. The later V8's (94mm bore - 3.9 onwards) have a flawed block anyway & the hotter burning gas is liable to show up any weakness's. You are obviously happy with your Disco as it is, so why spend a lot of money to risk possible serious damage?

Hi Nathen & Beast thanks for your help & advise ,getting the gass converstion accepted by the ministry of trans.is not easy .Even if I could fit it my self,it would not be accepted here.
Hi Norseman,.. your comments are interesting. My friend who tipped me off about my disco, one owner 34oooklm.at 3.5yrs,said that if I ever fittted gas he would never do any work on it-or speak to me again. He`s a L.R.&v8 nut ,so wone has to listen.Right? He says that the 4.0 has the most probs.with gas the other to are ok.One d2 he worked on went bang twice,L.R. repaired it under garentee the first time ,but not the second time.I remember seeing it parked at the garage were he worked, for about 3mths.while L.R. & gas company argued over who sould pay ---gas company lost,& the owner had alot of inconvinence.
But what about E85 chaps ????? :)

E85 has been used in american v8's I watched a study with 2 vehicles stripped after running 100,000 miles on on petrol one on E85. E85 vehicle ran cleaner and had a lot less wear, only issue is if the rubber components can handle it

Hi Fanatic. Thanks for your reply, the ? is ,are L.R.s rubber components up to it?? Think I`ll send a mail to L.R: Should be interesting.

i looked into this a few years ago here in the uk only morrisions are the only mainstream petrol/supermarket supplying and not in many numbers either.
mainly you will need to have the injectors changed and a piggy back ecu to increase the injection pulse as the E85 is a thicker fuel apart from these mods all should be ok i have gone down this route with the new engine I'm building as the higher the comp the better it will perform and the 4.6 is a 10.4-1 comp engine and will have hi flow injectors ready installed and a piggy backed ecu will be made and mapped to run on either unleaded or E85

it does give food for thought but the only problem is getting e85 from a petrol station!
