We bought an electric (cable) hedge trimmer for the wife to use. Because a petrol one would be too heavy. but it is still too heavy.
Also, we bought it in France. Bits of the land we can get to with a extension, but the far end of the land is so far away I have to put our genny on a wheelbarrow and use that.
Mad.:(:(:(
RYOBI!
don't swear!
I did our back hedge on the last decent day we had last week (been sh1te since), I use my long reach one for the side but, it's a bit iffy using it from a ladder to do the top, I have a normal one
for that but, it's started leaking from the fuel tank grommet and kept cutting out, had to do it with the electric one, absolutely feckin useless:mad:
got the new grommet and fuel pipe and filter now, and a carb repair kit so, when the weather improves:)
somebody said, why don't you get a battery powered mower? ok, what when the battery dies and, I'm only halfway through cutting the grass? oh, just charge the battery and, how long does that take?
No Thanks, it takes a couple of minutes to top up the petrol:)

Do Hasquevarna do strimmers and such? Thought they'd be a better bet in Spain.

I tend to use Stihl. Lasts for years with no issues. Honda had decent mowers before they changed the gearboxes to plastic. Engines are still excellent, just a pity about the gearboxes.
Husqvarna used to be owned by Electrolux under their outdoor products division, they sold it off some time ago, no idea who owns the brand now but I'd bet a lot of the product is made in China.
Sthil is for the rich or the professional, too expensive for me.

Almost a hectare:eek: Mostly enclosed by the river, mill stream and trees. Ah the vibrations, I have had to fit lead weights to the handlebars on the Ryobi strimmer to damp the vibrations a bit or I end up with vibration white finger. I will never buy another Ryobi product.
The generator is a 3Kw electric start Honda unit on wheels, I can't lift it.
Like the idea of the lead weights! I only ever do maximum two tanks of fuel before stopping to avoid white finger, a hectare is a lot of ground to look after. altho we have 6000 sq mtrs we don't use half of it and in fact are going to flog most of the excess off, prolly two parcelles to avoid the need to create a lotissement.
Do you do a bit of fishing then?
Sounds very nice as long as the water is far enough away from the house to avoid flooding and or damp issues.
I am now wondering if your place is an old water mill!;)
Can't remember how many Kws our genny does but it is about 50 kilos to lift.

Re Stihl, if I was 10 or 20 yrs younger I might have bought some, but too old now although the wife does have a small hand cutter which she loves, by Stihl.

Yes it's an old watermill, the island floods to a depth of 1 metre at times, it was a bit scary the first time but the house has never flooded in living memory. The mill stream runs along the house wall, If you want photo's, PM me with an email address, It's in a protected area so no chance of selling any of the land off, not that I would want to. No, I don't fish, there are very few left after to local pecheurs have been active for a week:(

So true,a 4 hp rotavator with a perfect engine and a knackered gearbox is residing in a barn on the farm because spares are not available.:mad:

A lot of the ethanol added to petrol is made from Maize, grown in many places, including the US and Britain.
I doubt it has any environmental benefits as opposed to just burning real petrol in the first place, and the maize also takes up a lot of land that could be used to grow food for humans.
Ahhhhh but then that means you *can* grow your own food. That doesn't fit into the "all food must be imported" Govt agenda's whilst publicly stating "We need food security". Both things can't be true, just as there is no clean end of a ****. But politicians would have us believe it is possible. "I was not at a party" "I may have been at a party" "I wasn't told it was a party" "It was a party, but I wasn't there for very long".... which is the clean end?:D
