The arm will fall right off, I am so certain of this because its flopping about all over the fooking place.

I wish it was jammed up tight!

I think you are right, I am going to try the bean can approach if the splines are not that bad, if I need a new PAS box I will take it off and fit the manual box and get a new one and fit it in the spring.

Not sure what I would do about the pump in the mean time, bypass it with a shorter belt I guess.

I have a spare PAS box here off mi disco, can have it for a few beer tokens;) :D

Ye could try a 36mm socket ( if it's the same as mine)
Ah'm almost sure that the bit where the arm goes ontae is tapered, so if ye get the right socket and torque it up ye should be ok;)

Happy New Year guys

OK - I will get a socket tomorrow and give it a tighten - if that fails I will be in touch Ian - thanks.

I tightened it right up and now the arm doesn't wiggle up and down.

I took it for a spin and think that thats it sorted, however I didn't go far so I might have been kidding myself - we will see tomorrow.

Heh... Well I'm not in the clear yet, it shows most on the motorway when I can't stay in a straight line.

I take it the shafts can't be replaced...

I would take yer arm off and check the splines as this is under an enormous amount of strain and worn splines could fail and be disasterous!
Best to check than be sorry.
Better off getting another box than trying to swap innerds. have done it before now but not the best.

Is there not a master spline so the arm can't slip on the shaft?

Looks like I might need to get the manual box back on for now...

RE fitting the manual box - my 300TDi has the PAS pump bypassed with a shorter belt. About 1420 MM long i think.

My drop arm was loose when i bought the 90, tightened it, sorted. Make sure the lock washer is in good nick.
