if i drive a jcb into the side of a car its going to make more mess than a winch bumper would..... you cant ban all plant, tractors and trucks from the road cos theyre more solid than a saxo.

Which is my point. The law will find it difficult to put a blanket ban on all ' types ' of vehicle because they are deemed more dangerous than others in an accident. JCB's and plant vehicles are limited in speed to a point due to their very nature, but a JCB can still hit 50mph on an open road ( if i'm not mistaken a JCB has to be driven with the bucket up on an open road? )

So do they wait until you have an accident and say ' well it was down to the huge bumper, raised suspension and winch attached which decapitated the person you hit ' rather than ban all vehicles over a said height with the modifications?

Look at the argument involving bullbars, a modification which can be argued from the drivers/vehicle safety and the person/object you hit's safety.

I was putting the point on our ' own vehicles ' and the moral standing of what ' we ' put on, or take off for that matter, the vehicle and whether it's morally right to do so, but that's a personal choice which we do have the right to choose as long as the vehicle conforms to C&U regs.

If you remove your doors, your roof and have an accident ( whether you're own fault or another ) and either yourself or a passenger is killed, the law will step in and ask if the removal of the parts were the cause, but will the law also try and blame you for an accident in which someone was unfortunately killed/maimed/injured due to a modification? An extra few inches, a heavier bumper, wider wheels etc, etc, can they prove this though?

Thinking about it I think that the police are more interested in the basic safety of your vehicle ie do the brakes work, is the steering in good order and tread depth etc and more importantly are you driving safely with due care and attention.

The best attitude ( and I'm not preaching here) if you have many mods is to not attract the attention of the law in the first place, drive like a IAM member on road and enjoy your motor off road

As for blanket bans we do live in a nanny state they ban all sorts of things without thinking it through, gun clubs, certain breeds of dog etc then the good guys have to live without them and the baddies still have them so nothing solved but the politicians score some points.
