Hi Everyone, perhaps someone can help or advise. my driving lights on my 97 RR can i replace the bulbs with brighter ones, or do i have to replace the complete light..also are they easy to get too.........sincere thanks .................

I think the p38 lights are actually quite good. Both dipped and main. And that is comparing to some modern stuff I also drive.

If your really not happy, consider changing the entirte lamp units as the reflectors maybe past thier best. Also, have a look at the bulbs themselves. You may find a good clean up make a big difference. As for power upgrade.....I would suggest you don't do it as per reason Datatek advises.

P38s are not fitted with driving lights. The ones fitted into the bumper cover are fog lamps. Driving lamps have different lenses. Fog lamps can be switched on when the side lamps or headlamps are lit. Driving lamps can only be used when headlamps are lit. And must go out if headlamps are switched off.

I wouldn't make that assumption these days, a lot of people think fog lights are driving lights and/or aesthetic lights so use them in all weathers.

Not to sure, but think it is actually an offence to have fog lamps lit if it is not foggy.

Wish they'd nick the plonkers that drive around with their rear fog lights on when its not foggy.

Yep they are a bloody menace and the bloody stupid HID headlamps. If you wear glasses they are a danger on the roads. Specially the ones fitted as an accessory to vehicles with no self level. They will fail MOT after January so that's a good thing.

Not really, people who have stuff like that on their cars are the same people who will remove it for MoT Test, then refit it after. Or find a test centre willing to turn a blind eye. Of which there are many.

T'other day when I was behind someone with fogs on (he had silly lexarse lights too) while bumbaling at about 40mph in a NSL, I got annoyed after about 3 miles as although dark was perfect visibility, so I flashed him at first hoping it'd make him check his lights. No joy, so when the road allowed I went round him and flashed my rear fogs twice, hoping he'd get the hint. Nope, instead he decided to try and keep up with me while constantly flashing his high beams on and off. He soon stopped when I pulled up abruptly and jumped out to talk to him. You've never seen doors lock so quickly in your life.

Pricks sat in their little boxes who do not realise or maybe don't give a **** how much of a problem they are to others. See them more and more each day. Driving standards and driver attitude have seriously gone down hill over the years.

Including Police drivers. I have stopped more than one of them for driving with rear fogs on in clear conditions, they don't even seem to know it's an offence. They are not happy when I say I'm reporting them:D

People who pass you at 45 in a 30 then are sat next to you at the next set of lights really **** me off. Why the hell do people drive like that?

People who do 40 everywhere need to be taken out back and shot. These people are usually grey haired and have been driving since before you was born and know all there is to know about everything. Yet have the reaction times of QE2.

They are not the problem on the whole. They have enough experience to judge when it is safe to make progress adjusting their driving to the conditions. It's the youngsters who think they know everything there is to know but know sod all that are the problem. Never adjusting to conditions just blasting around everywhere at all times without any regard for conditions or others road users. Of course they have lightening reactions so it makes it ok.

Chill

just as many tools out there that don't use the fogs when they are needed??

a van passed me at 7:05 this morning on the A580 with no lights at all??? I was touching 60(ish) so he was well over the limit? but didn't wind me up - just one of those things you can't control :)

I have HID and so long as you get a Low or very high temperature they do not blind other motorist it's the 4000K - 8000K range that you are all moaning about. I also do not flash oncoming cars I flick to parking lights so they can see if they are passing through a tight spot.

Slightly different situation, of course there is nothing you can do about your instance. But when you are driving along a 30 mph road with four or five sets of lights along it why do people sprint away like bloody idiots to be stopped by the next set of lights. Make no sense to me.

No, they do not judge anything. They literally do 40MPH EVERYWHERE. Doesn't matter the condition of the road, they will not leave 40MPH unless they have to stop. All it does is create queues of traffic, that eventually leads to impatient drivers and before long you get people trying to overtake in locations where it isn't safe to do so. The amount of times I've seen someone lose a wing mirror by going for an extremely optimistic overtake on multiple vehicles.

I do that, it was a habit I got into with my old van as the flash switch was temperamental and would stick on highbeam. I've done it ever since, but I see more and more people doing it now which is a nice change. Slightly less noticeable than flashing a highbeam but is much nicer to everyone's eyes.
