First of all tell us what disco model u are talking about.
If it's a D1 then the symptiom of a faulty door lock spring is when you unlock the door pin will rise and drop down half way so re-locking the door, D2's don't have the spring issue.

Because you say "it will lock and unlock just not open" then the lock doesn't have a problem so check that the striker plate is in alignment with the door.

I think if he could do that he wouldn't have posted the problem.

D1 mate, but not the usuall rise and drop thing, all seems to be aligned.

If its the old spring problem, holding the lock button up whilst pulling the handle will allow the door to open. Or if outside, hold the key turned to the unlock position and try opening the door. My last D1, the button drop after unlocking was barely visible, but just enough.

If you can get in that way, head to ebay and search for discovery lock spring

Not sure if its the same spring as the ones they sell on ebay.
Cheers Rich
