Drive shaft oil seal

Afternoon RR lovers, I went about replacing front offside drive shaft oil seal yesterday was a real pain in the Ass getting the brake disc off for starters. Any tips for seating new seal in the hub carrier please ? Rave says to use insertion tool to instal new oil seal ? have been told a socket will do who has a socket that big in the tool kit any constructive suggestions very welcome

you will want it to go in square so that is the thinking on using a large socket,
piece of pipe maybe and tap in gently .

Pipe wooden Batton sideways then end on at 12 /6/3/9 o'clock gently little by little big one like that are a little forgiving renember it's the inside diameter that does the sealing .

HA! I took the advice given, and used a lil bit of roofing batten and tapped away gently at 12,3,6,9 o'clock

Nice they go in Quite easy don't they thanks good show saved yourself money feels good don't it

I guess the most important thing is to keep it VERY clean. Get a bit of grit on the inside of that seal or the shaft as you put it back and it'll wear quickly. But I surprised myself when I did mine. Not too bad at all. Hardest bit was getting it back down off the lift which broke. Had to bleed the hydraulics!

The rust on the shaft can eat seals quick if ever they look rusty a smoothing with very fine wet and dry is the order of the day .

I used the old seal to put mine in square. Also foocked the abs sensor up. I took a gamble and order the £12.50 ones off ebay. Came next day. I ordered 2 in case i buggered the new one up. Worked fine and good quality. Local motor factor quoted £168 plus vodka and tonic for one !!!!!

Great advice! LOL to the vodka and tonic never heard of that one. The vodka and tonic is 25% here in the republic of Ireland !!!!
