Drab green Yes or No??

Yes, but prep it properly first. It only needs the shine taking off the old paint with a bit of fine sand paper and no need to prime. In areas where paint is scabby or missing, flatten it right off and treat it with aluminium primer if it goes through to bare metal. Really make sure you get it right, it took me about five hours to sand down. Then brush on the paint, concentrating on the seams, hinges and tricky areas first and finish with a roller. You should only need one coat but if you've got the time, go for two. I've got MATT NATO green on mine. It isn't actually a truly MATT finish, more like a satin but with the effect of a MATT paint. Its oil based but bizzarely it is resistant to oil, diesel etc. and the colour hasn't faded. Some manufacturers make a truly MATT paint which will fade horribly.

Right. Mr Noisy, ya disco looks well nice and Johny357 ya defender may have just convinced me!! That looks mint and that's the look I'm after!! Do you reckon It will still look as good on a long wheel base ex utility with lockers etc???

I don't see why not, i think it would look awesome with all the lockers etc. only thing i would say, it will pay to strip as much lockers, seals, chequer plate etc as you can first (all very well painting a utility locker up nicely, only for it to slam shut when wet and mark the rest of the paint, plus you will end up with fingerprints trying to open/close it as you paint it on both sides....)

as long as you take the time to prep the surface properly and spend the time with a rad roller (you are best to use a fine gloss roller) to paint it all up in a relatively warm dry environment then you can't go wrong.

You are either best to wait till next summer when its warm and dry, or beg borrow or steal a workshop/barn/large garage, last thing you want is to achieve a good finish, only for a gust of wind to scatter crap into the tacky wet paint......

Sprayed my series2 station wagon with matt green from Blanchards. Went on easily and dried very quickly. Looks good to me. When it needs freshening up I rub it all over with WD40. Brings it up a treat

Gosh, all this talk of painting, I wish I was at that stage with my S3 project. I sprayed a S3 Lightweight I restored a few years ago with Nato green matt paint. Looked good and took ages to dull, even then it looked good.

forgot to mention mine is satin, but it has matted of a bit after a few lanes and a few washes with a stiff brush!

i bought that marathon coatings stuff off ebay, olive drab. got 5 litre, used about 2 litres max!

Yup, reckon I'm doin it drab! Might wait till the summer and use my mates workshop. Also he has some green that won't give ya position away on radar either!! Haha, might be a bit over the top but sod it who cares!!

olive drab satin, mini rollers, piece of ****!
12 months ago this was a rough blue pick up straight off the farm.....

Not drab green coz it'll look like mine & i might get confused.
