daft question please , would the error come up on the differential it’s self instead of a high figure if that makes sense

are those readings vacuum instead of positive pressure plse

haven’t as of yet been able to find what the normal readings are

also assume the op has set up the new dpf sensor that was fitted

thks
Set it up the way you adviced, the 5 start routine.

Will try motip DPF cleaner today

Also just found this , to which I thought may be helpful ref how the dpf sensor works

I would assume its as per your pic/post on the sensor, but as the tech moves on who knows?

As an example a Cummins ISX Euro 6 engine is measuring 96 parameters at any one time.

The trucks have been thought about as you can simply push a button on the dash to see what the soot content of the dpf is and if high the truck will either try and do a regen itself during driving or force you into doing a manual regen, again dead simple push button and whilst its regenning (45 mins) go and have a cuppa.

many thks as always , also been reading about this oil dilution where indeed the engine oil has to be changed sooner than scheduled

think next time as I do a lot short journeys I’ll be better off getting a petrol , as from what I’ve read short journeys clog up the dpfs

daft question though , assume they don’t have this kind of system on petrols plse as I believe petrols are more forgiving with short journeys

many thks as always and hope u didn’t mind me asking

Trucks dont seem to suffer from oil dilution, I guess very very few do short trips and they are always working hard, ours dont do big miles, about 20k between 8 week inspections, most long haul or trampers will do double that.

I could be wrong but think I read recently something about petrol dpfs, maybe they are starting there as well?

Tbh these days I could quite happily drive a nissan micra and it would do pretty much all I ask of the disco, dog might get the hump at the lack of space!

Never feel guitly about asking anything, we never stop learning.
I have now got to that age where I can say to the apprentices I have forgotten more than you have known!

many thks as always , did hear the D4 doesn’t suffer from the oil dilution

wouldn’t mind a 4.4 V8 D3, one with the jag engine but not many around and they didn’t fit the 4.4 in the D4s

always been tempted for a V8 4.4 Range Rover L322 but dread to think what ins is, plus think with petrols and short journeys the exhausts rot out quicker

DPF replacements I see can be had for around £150-200 instead of the £1200 for genuine

So.

I tried the motip stuff. Sort of did something. Kpa pressure is pretty much the same it seems. But the limp mode situation is drastically improved. But not solved. On saturday the car would go into limp mode every 500 meters. Now it is random and not all the time. But still happening.

But the diagnostic seems to be willing or nearly willing to do a regeneration. Will try to get it to do that.

Next step is taking the thing of and pressure washing it. I see No reason not to give it a try.

Have nothing to lose trying before ordering one for 100-200£ of ebay.

Yesterday I got it to do a regeneration finally. Drove super nice for an hour after that. High and low speeds, starting and stopping.

Today it started up and threw me a "dpf full" again.

argh.

Its fcuked, get your wallet out.

I did two trucks last night, one went sweet, other took an hour and afterwards the computer told me there was still to much ash in the dpf and it needed a new one, 500k they reckon is an average, truck was on 660k.
Also computer told me if do more than 3 regens in a row you need to change the oil asap or drive the vehicles for approx 60 hrs to evaporate the fuel out of the engine oil.
Pic from regen process, to cold to watch it so ran off and hid in the warm.

had the car by my trusted indie LR-mechanic today. They read out everything and can`t find anything wrong with the DPF. According to the mechanic they did a heavy regeneration on it the last time, a week ago.
"Normally it comes out black and nasty, but this was clear".
Since then it runs completly normal for a long time, and intermittently get a p244b fault. no other faults. Show nothing wrong with the pressure on the exhaust sensor and no other codes indicating a full dpf. Live reading suggests it being all clear.

Since the fault is intermittent, and the car runs normally with the fault cleared, things are pointing to a wire issue. Some kind of wire breakage.

Will change oil this weekend, waiting for it to be delievered. What will fuel in the engine oil do btw?

Diesel in oil will mean the oil wont have th strength to support the bearing loads ie it will be to thin, which is especially important as the tdv6 runs real low oil pressure as std.

Oil dilution is an issue on modern cars especially ones used for short journeys, land rover even had a dealer bulletin thing to explain to customers what car and engine was best for their use and why a 4.4litre v8 derv wasnt going to end well for town work!

Sorry for crap quality screen shot, this is euro6 motors so anything post 2016
