hi guys, wonder if im missing something, when my p38 dse is parked up all day at work,i start it up,select drive, release the handbrake, press the throttle and.......nothing! well not quite as bad as that but with my foot to the floor it feels like im trying to pull a barn, its worse in reverse and its fine once its started to move, any advice is appreciated.

level is fine and oil is clean, oil and filter was changed 12000m ago,i'll try the transmission fix, especially as ive found it to be a bit sluggish to change up recently, thanks for the reply.

You did check the level cold with the engine idling and after running through the gears?

12,000 miles ago? You're well due for another service.

I had a similar issue with my P38, it was resolved by replacing the diff oil. It was like tar in there and required quite a lot of cleaning to get it all out.

As suggested above lee put in Neutral lift rear wheels release hand brake after chocking front wheels and check they spin freely and hand brake has released for simple test

Thanks for the replies,my hand brake is at full lift also as stupid as it sounds I don't live or work near any level ground the nearest place ironically is a halfords about a mile away,is this too far to be able to check the oil,if not how long should I wait for it to cool down?

If you lift both rear wheels they will spin even with the handbrake full on that's what a diff does, unless you mean put it in gear with the engine running which would be dangerous as the VCU would lock and propel it forward.

Ok smart arse a rear wheel with hands hand brake=drum =propshaft who said anything about starting it go play with your radio

Perhaps you make things clear when you write? No point in misleading folks.

Think someone is under the impression that if you lift a rear wheel and release the handbrake you can easily turn the rear prop shaft. Well unless the transfer box is in neutral or a front wheel is also off the ground you can't.:):)

. I must say I'm disappointed in you both maybe I should explain better for those that don't know that I guess even includes yourselfs .

The object of my excersise was to see if the hand brake drum was binding, now before I begin you really must get out of your seats and books, giving the workings of transmissions via dialog ...,

If you jack up one rear wheel only take the hand brake off with a front wheel Chocked and put the gear selector in Neutral.
By turning the back wheel back and fourth there is enough slack in the transmission to watch the hand brake drum moving ( the object ) with no need to wast your time jacking the front . When was the last time you got under your car and off the computer ?????

Yes but you do have a habit of ballsing up your descriptions. Which would lead me to believe you don't know quite as much as you would like people to think. You maybe able to pull the wool over some eyes on here, but you don't know enough to pull it over mine.

Mind you he could just try parking at work one day without putting the handbrake on and see what happens.
