The door speakers on my wifes TD4 only works intermittently and I had someone checking the drivers side speaker which he said was knackered. I am looking to buy new speakers for the front and my question is has anybody here on the form done it before and which speakers did you replace them with?
    Many thanks in advance

You need to make sure the new speakers will fit, as there needs to be enough clearance between the back of the speaker and the window. This is a common problem.

I have 4x JBL GTO628. They fit relatively well. Cost me £100 ish from Halfrauds.

You do not have to use the supplied speaker mesh/grill. I didn't as I wanted it to look original and it was less hassle that way too.

If your front speakers don't work at all, I'd advise you to check whether or not it's the speakers at fault or whether or not it's a wiring/electrical issue. Either way though, the standard speakers in the Freelander are absolute crap in terms of sound quality.

I was about to recommend JBL GTO's as well. You need 16.5cm ones, and those ones above are on ebay for about £25 last time I bought some a few months back for another motor. Very good speakers for the money.

I have loads of high end make 16.5cm speakers lying around. Is there any special adaptor you need to make them fit as with a lot of other manufacturers. My drivers door speaker is not working either but the tweeter is. Either the wiring has come loose or it has stopped working which is not very likely as speakers very rarely totaly pack up.
All manufacturers standard spakers are crap!

im just wondering, do these sound alot better than the original factory fitted units ?

so wondering if its worth changing all mine to these, is it worth it ?

mine sound good but not at top end, they distort, so wondering if these are going to be much more of an improvement ???

do they fit without any gaps around them in the doors ?

    thanks

They do sound a lot better than the standard ones imo. If you've ever taken your door card off, you would have probs noticed how **** the standard speakers are. Very poor build quality imo.

Only problem with mine is that they don't give a tremendous amount of low frequency sound. (bass) I am not 100% sure but I believe this is partly down to the dimensions of the cabin. Could be solved by adding a subwoofer. Though, I haven't bothered to do that given that I need boot space.

They don't fit perfectly in the doors but they fit sufficiently. If you plan to use the standard grill, nobody will notice. They also come with vibration dampeners, but I didn't bother to use those.

Again, is there any sort of adaptor from someone like Autoleads available in order to fit normal spakers?

Imo that's not worth the hassle.
