My drivers door latching pillar is cracked, it’s been like it for years I guess the door was opened and shut a lot whilst it was in the Royal Air Force and I forgot about it until I looked at it today, my doors shut lovely now since fitting new optimil hinges, is there any simple repairs anyone can recommend please? I really don’t want to have to move the door hinges about again

I riveted 2 bits of aluminium either side. It doesn't look pretty but should look better once painted.

I just done mine with a repair panel from YRM. I drilled out the spot welds and the old piece came out, then fitted the new one with structural adhesive.

@Discodevon can you post a picture or two of the cracks? They sound unusual for a vehicle in the condition yours is in.
Given what I've seen of yours I suspect I'd be getting it welded up. Someone near you will do ali welding. Pictures would be handy though.

But was the end of the tub that houses the door latch and your seat box ends corroded?
No. It’s a double skin. The new outer skin is what you see in my photo and the original was corroded at the bottom. I am going to do the drivers side soon which is cracked and also corroded at the bottom. I’m also renewing the seat box ends when I’m at it.
