New to the whole Freelander ....I have a 1.8 freelander s, on a 2001 plate Y. I see on here alsorts about differnt series L ,K howd I know what series I have? Your gonna have to be patient with me

L series diesel = rover L series diesel first used on Freelander 1's
k series 1.8 petrol = rover 1.8 k series petrol used on all 1.8 petrol Freelander 1's
Td4 = later diesel made by bmw used on later Freelander 1's
v6 = rover k series or rover kv6 used on Freelander 1's. Freelander only used the 2.5L option

Td4 and v6 were introduced in the 2001 model year which started late 2000. L series diesel stopped at this point. Later on in the Freelander's life both petrol engines stopped as rover had gone so they were difficult to get new.

It'll be a 1.8 litre, 16 valve K-series, running MEMS3 (and EU2 compliant) with EOBD compliant diagnostics.

Twin coil (in head) with wasted spark ignition. Rated at 118bhp, 121 lb.ft torque.

Same engine as in mine :)

Thanks for the info Rob much appreciated, being new to the whole landy rover scene and knowing bugger all about mechanics. I will be asking lots of questions.

Sorry mate, Mocking is compulsory around here. :p
Just keep an eye on the coolant level and check for white stuff like mayo on the dipstick and you'll be fine, as far as the engine is concerned anyway. The rest of the car is standard Landy so it'll keep you busy.
