Right, my snorkel is done, my breather kit is getting fitted saturday and I have got my plugs e.t.c. so I should be all ready to go wading, well almost...

I shall be removing my underlay at the weekend, was thinking about wether to remove the carpets or not, whilst im there im thinking I should move any low electrics but I dont know what sits where on a disco floor so was after some advice on whats there and is it worth moving?

Im thinking ECU if its down there, wiring plugs e.t.c? Any other control boxes?

Im not planning to get water inside but how many times have people entered water believing they will get out the other side!! I dont want to be shorting stuff out here...

I removed the carpet and soundproofing and just have some rubber mats. Its not like a modern car, there is fook all under the carpets wiring wise and I think you would need to get the water up to seat level before anything like that got wet :D

Mines a 200 Disco.

Relays in both footwells
Wiring along the top of the transmission tunnel for handbrake light and electric windows. I dont have electric windows but the wiring is all there.

Everything else runs through the bulkhead from the passenger side mainly and then up the a pillars.

I removed every bit of soundproofing I could and just put in the carpets. I cut around the transmission tunnel so the carpets can be pulled out without having to undo a single bolt. Easy

Thats what im thinking about doing, I dont want to lose the carpets but I would rather be able to pressure wash them when needed...

I will move/waterproof what I can then, like I say I dont plan to do anything underwater but you never know...

I just stuffed the relays upwards under the dash and located them with cable ties.

Thankfully non have failed cos it'll be a bit of a pigs ear to find the correct one :D

Unlikely to get water as high as the centre console, ****ter if you do cos everything else will be getting wet, including you and the phone in your pocket :(

Wading tip? Dont stop moving! Water rushes in when the car is stopped but not so much when it's moving.

If youre doing lots of wading fit FRC8221G inner hub seal all round, they have garter spring much more resilient, also new prop flanges and seals at the diff, you'll be amazed how worn they can be and still keep oil in.

Didn't take me long to realise what was up when I screwed both diffs cos the axles were literally full to the brim with muddy slop water.

Diff tip is something I wouldn't have thought of. Thanks. I will probably move the relays as well but to a panel so finding the right one will be easier :D
