My alarm has been doing my head in went off again today without the car even being locked and the battery went dead. Does the P38 have two horns because I disconnected something which looked like an electronic bell like what you see in schools etc, yet when I pressed the horn it still operated

Thanks,
Dale.

There's two on mine!

The alarm siren unit is on the offside inner wing just behind the sceen wash filler. Disconnect this at your peril; it will likely show Alarm Fault on dash display and potentially cause all sorts of probs!
If alarm is activating for no apparent reason then get it checked out. Mine had fault on drivers door micro switches, and was picking up spurious radio signals on the RF unit, both causing alarm/locking issues. New door handle fitted, blue aerial wire off RF unit cured the then issue, but it's back at garage now with another alarm fault (as yet unidentified!)

Two types of alarm sounder fitted to P38's.
Either "Klaxon" (Horn) or BBUS (Battery Back Up Sounder) which is located as others have posted, just at the front of the engine bay fuse box.
The BBUS is linked in to the alarm circuit and does indeed give fault messages if disconnected. It is designed to operate for a while after the car battery has been disabled.

Well i went in Halfords and they happened to have some horns on sale, what i disconnected looked very much like them.

The "horn" I disconnected was more UNDER the fusebox, behind the battery compartment... Yet when I press the hooter it still sounds :confused:

I haven't had any messages as of yet by disconnecting it though..

I'm absolutely sick to death of the ruddy thing going off and I'm sure my neighbors are too.

Where do you get the alarms tested?

The hooter and the alarm sounder are 2 different things. Did you ever get a new battery? what you have described disconnecting was the alarm sounder.

And just to really confuse you - mine's got a horn either side of the radiator and an alarm sounder in front of the fuse box.

Why don't you approach this in a technical manner?
Set your alarm off -

then smash whatever makes a noise with the biggest hammer you own

definately alarm sounder (BBUS) you have disconected; open bonnet and leave a window down and then lock with fob. Reach in and open door to set alarm off - you'll find a disconected sounder is rather mute, but very lucky if not getting Fault warnings!
