Acquired a vehicle (fl2) that has a fault where, very occasionally, normally on the same stretch of road, it will go into limp mode.

Its been to landrover (with the previous owner), and landrover says they can see the reduced engine mode come in, but not why. Which i find had to believe, but thats what im told.

The vehical is now under my ownership, and id like to try and get to the bottom of what the issue is.

Something causes the ECU to put it into limp - i figure if i could record the data for every trip, i might have a hope of seeing some spike or other just before it goes to limp.

Im a 300tdi guy, so this is all proper madness to me as it is. I dont understand how landrover can claim to see the limp mode, but not know what sensor triggered it, but, again, thats what ive been told. Im just looking to buy a device that will suck up all the data and give me a hope to see whats what.

Is the Gap IID this unit, or is it more for altering suspension lift? Does whatever software that, i assume, runs on the BT client actually log data like this?

Thank you.

The GAP IID can log data from all modules I believe. It did when I used mine on my D3, and logging is in the details on the website.

I'm thinking of buying another IID myself, as I've also just bought a FL2 with a fault. I'll not know what that fault is until I get it home, which I'm doing later today.

You're keen enough to buy a whole new unit, rather than just another licence for your existing hardware?

It can log data but only max 8 items from the live data options available, which it can view.

On a smart fone...

If yer want to see how it works you can download the gap iidbt app from the web, install it and run it in demo mode without the gap iidbt itself, to see how it works.

Click demo mode.
Click search for tool.
Select the FL2 iidTool BT option.
Click live values.
Select live values again.
Select quick list.
Select eg. the engine i4.
Once in there select max 8 items. They will turn blue.
Click view in bottom left.
Click top red square to start logging.
Red square will then dissapear as it starts to log.
Touch the screen again where the red square was, to get the white square to appear.
Click white square to stop logging.
A box to save data will then appear. Click save. Click ok.
Click left arrow twice.
Click view logs.
Click once on log file to view, then click view at botton.
Click envelope sign top right.
Click in next box pdf or other like csv, to view logged data as graph in pdf file or csv spreadsheet.

You also have the option of triggering logging when an event happens. Like engine revs go above 2123rpm. Never used that option.

I sold my IID BT after I sold my D3, and went back to A Freelander 1, which is to old for the IID.

Now I have bought a FL2, I think it'll be sensible to get another IID.;)
