Dodgy Defender?

A 97 plate defender TD5?
I thought that the TD5 didn't come in till 1998...
Supposedly its a td5 because its had a 2003 engine fitted a few months ago but the interior has the post 2003 style dash. Possibly on false plates?
And he calls it a Jeep and doesn't talk very much about the rebuild which it's had a few months ago.
To be fair, he has put his phone number etc on the listing so I hope I'm not jumping the gun on this one but i thought it better to post it in case someone recognises it as their own...

It all looks ok, and the fact he has got it on a Q plate is encouraging, at least it means VOSA have had a look at it and think it's ok.

What does the Q plate mean exactly?

It has a TD5 chassis, dash, engine, late TD5 lights, Late type rear door without the split....... I wouldn't buy it myself. I'd rather buy a tatty un than summit as tampered with as that. I'd love to know how peeps get summit like that insured cos you're never gonna know all the 'mods' (assuming it's ligit) that are done.

It failed the point score to retain its original id.

You have to accumalate a certain amount of points for the vehicle to be classed as still being original. If you change too many parts it has to go over to a Q plate. A vehicle whose ID cannot be proven would also go on a Q plate.
