Right my clarion diversity has never worked since I've had the car. Chap I bought car off removed it smoke was pouring out of it one day!!? Just wondered if anyone knew if any cd changer compatible clarion head unit would work? Just seems a shame to put another stereo in and loose the changer. Cheers in advance.

Diversity are being replaced? By who? ;)

Clarion offer a fixed price reconditioning service. That's probably your cheapest and easiest option.

Need to send mine off sometime as the display is dead.

why not just get rid of it and buy a unit that plays mp3's you can get about 170 songs on a cd.

and/or if you get a dvd player you will never need to change disks again!!!! lol!!!

i know your gonna say the controls on the steering wheel wont work, no they wont but the stereo is less than a metre from your face you idle sod!!! (obviously al one arm is exempt from bieng an idle sod!! lol!!!)

theres sone great players on the market these days so go out and have a look round!

I just used the clarion service and can't say enough about it! Its not fixed price even though advertised as such. In my case they checked it over and decided the innards were fine, LCD was fine and all it needed was code unlock. I chose the option for an MP3 in and they only charged me for the work done. It came to 70 quid including UPS both ways instead of around 100 as I'd expected. Am well pleased!

If you do replace the diversity with another clarion chances are the changer will still work as long as it uses the same round multi-pin plug. What you will lose though are the steering controls and you'll have a merry time splicing the low-out wires to all the amps, especially if the new unit only has high-outs.

In my limited experience with the Clarion Diversity, I guess overall I've been quite fortunate.
In that, the wiring is still mostly there, I know the speakers, sub, tape and cd changer work.
The gutting thing is the head unit........
Someone had literally ripped it out, so the facia panel connector isn't quite right, so causes a high pitched whine, or when pressed hard, a fully working system !
Sadly, this didnt last, so tomorrow I'm going to ring the service centre and have a chat !

With regard to other units, yes there are units that will do all sorts, but I have to disagree slghtly with gavbriggs, as if you get stopped for using the stereo controls (not on the steering wheel), you may get some points and a fine !
However, some of the newer Clarion units have input for steering/stalk controls, and look quite nice, so you may be lucky !

I sent my unit to clarion for them to fit an aux lead so I can use my ipod etc. great service and very quick turnaround. The best thing is, the car still looks standard unlike the pigs ear stereo that was in my last P38. Steve
