I will probably venture back in to off-roading when my D2 isn't my daily drive, and if I decide that I've had enough of the SLS and fit coils permanently, I notice that the coils themselves aren't fixed at the top or bottom, and it's just the weight of the car keeping them in place, so when the it becomes a toy, what end of the coil needs the dislocation cone?
 
The damper length is normally selected so that the springs don't become dislocated - unless you're after every bit of possible articulation for extreme off-roading. If so, dis- location cones are usually put at the top
