Hi i want to change my brake discs i mainly do green laning and offroading am i better to buy standard solid disc compared to vented discs any opinions? I still use it for abit of road use.

if you have solid discs fitted now, to change to vented would mean a caliper change aswell as the vented discs are thicker, do you mean drilled and grooved?

Vented rotors help dissipate heat and prevent brake fade (as well as better pads), but they don't increase braking power, so they wouldn't be worth it in my humble opinion...

I went for EBC Drilled and Grooved Disks (non vented) with Green Stuff Pads much better brake performance can really feel the byte and can lock wheels if pushed enough (large tyres extra weight etc)

Personally I'd stick with solid discs because I'd be thinking the drilled and grooved ones would fill with watery mud and end up being baked into the grooves when the discs get hot.

If your thinking of brake fade, why not get them cryogenically treated ? this does help

RE Drilled and grooves

ive had these a few years now and never had any problems personally with mud etc being stuck in there done some quite serious wading bogs etc

I've drilled and grooved discs and EBC pads allround as I was getting bad fade with the standard discs and pads on the road especially if towing the trailer on backroads.

They are a disaster for off-roading though. I've went through two sets of pads in less than 12 months. Granted, I've done about 20K in that time but the discs fill up with mud and grit and wear the pads alot after offroading.

Have solid discs and cheaper pads on my offroader.

Even though, they aren't ideal for offroading... They are still well worth it on my 110 though so if your doing both alot of road driving and greenlaning, I'd go with them. A good wash at the end of a days laning or driving through a freshwater ford or river helps alot too.

What it is lads i have a set of mint salisbury axles with vented discs on not the best cond same with the calipers prob saying there bad as my original are mint like new condition. Can i put my caliper solid discs on my new salisbury axles? I want to keep the salisbury hubs as my original bearings are shot cheers for advice.
