Alright folks, looking to replace the discs and pads on my gaylander. They are the solid discs from a pre 2000 model.

The stopping power (or lack thereof) is an issue so looking for a low cost recommendation that might improve it?

Is there any brands that perform better than others or is it just a case of fit cheap and cheerful and hope for the best?

Perhaps an upgrade to the post 2000 calipers with vented discs might be an option or would I run into wheel clearance (and a multitude of other) issues etc?

I've had the same idea of upgrading to the post 2000 disk brakes. But they wouldn't fit my 16' rims and you'd need to replace the entire system (master cylinder etc) as well.

You should be able to get slotted disks the same dimensions as your solids that will fit perfectly, they're gold in colour. Can't remember where from though. And the EBC pads are very good.

I have no problem buying quality components. I said low cost meaning not overpriced and I'm not sure how much benefit you get going for 'mintex' etc with a solid disc!

I don't skimp on safety. My other car has massively uprated discs and pads (slotted carbon rotors) but I guess I meant I didn't want to go to that extent! :)

I'll check out the links folks, thanks a lot! I'll let you know how I get on.

edit - Are greenstuff an improvement on the gaylander? I've always stayed away from them as they were rated pretty low. I have run red stuff which I got on well with though.

Also, do the turbo groove discs improve things?

I was thinking a change of fluid, discs and pads and if I still feel unhappy then I'll put on braided lines as that has made a huge difference to the feel.
