Hi all,

The temp gauge stopped indicating any temperature in my TD5 Discovery today, the red light is on above the gauge but the needle is right at the bottom as though there is no power to it .....................

Have any of you good gentlemen any suggestions as to where to start investigating in order to repair said problem?

Many thanks in advance.

Sounds like the temp 'sender' has gone 'open circuit'

Pull the wire off, (and with an assistant sitting in the drivers seat watching the guage) touch the wire down to the engine block for a second or two (NO longer)
The guage should start to rise up quite quickly thuis proving the guage is ok.

If so, replace the sender unit !!!

Hello Steve, thanks for the reply.

Would it be ok to use a longer wire and touch it to an earth point while I'm sitting in the drivers seat (all on my own here today) I think it sounds like it would but thought I should check! :)

Temp gauge sender doesn't sound expensive, but then again you never can tell!?

Regards

Aaron

Don't you just love intermittent faults ................ :(

It's working perfectly today!

Guessed at a bad connection as when I took the connector off it was a bit powdery, cleaned it up and replaced it and all seems fine now, until next time!

Many thanks for the replies, it's good to know help is out there!

Regards

Aaron

Ah Ha . . at least it didn't cost you anything

try a smear of vasaline (good as any) it will keep the water out and help the connection not corode again !!
