Discovery TD5 No Diff Lock - Retrofit?

Hi, bought a TD5, 2003 plate, unfortunately it does not have a diff lock fitted. Go offroad in slippy conditions and need all the help I can get, Is it possible to fit one - LR say no! Any options, bank balance not that healthy!

The first thing I would do is to make sure your grip issue is not due to tyres.

The reason why I say this is because I drive a D2 manual through some pretty muddy conditions and the traction control sees me through extremely well.

However, if your mind is set on a centre difflock, then my advice would be to search out either an earlier TD5 tranny box, as this will have the internals for difflock, just needing the linking mechanism. Or try to find a later tranny box with the difflock in place.

If you do this, it will make the job a lot easier, imo
 
Hi, you've all given me a bit to think about. Put on Goodrich At's, did not even know it had traction control still reading the manual. Never had a machine with traction control, so will get out in the mud and see what it can do. Many thanks.
 
It make a big difference the CDL believe me, i tell u this from my own experience....and mud is my second home:) ...... since i've retrofited the CDL linkage(coz my TB was up to it) my tirfor winch is getting rusty....before that i made true muscles with it dragging out my landy form deep mud. IMHO the simple TC in real deep and slippery mud is quite worthless. I decided to fit the CDL on mine after i've drove a friends Disco which had had it as original equipment..........i even lost a bottle of 16 year Dimple coz we had e bet that we will stuck there.....he told me we wont...and he won....along the same route and the similar conditions i was stuck 3 times without CDL.
