Hello, looking at purchasing a Discovery sport, diesel, manual or auto not fussed unless one is known for failures about 2017 onwards and it would be to keep for about 6 years, the question is are these any good in terms of reliability?

They're ok. Feel a bit heavy at the front when driving compared to the Freelander 2. I would go for an auto over a manual as its a big heavy car so less hassel having to change gear manually around town and local roads.

Love the freelander 2! Such well built landys, but the issue is the last of them are 2014, so a tad old for us, made me think about the disco sport

FL2 production stopped early October 2014.

There is a disco sport forum specific to that vehicle but they're heavily biased against hating it. Many seem to be leasers or keep buying new every so many years. The DS was a bit contravershal for some moving from a FL2 as buyers felt the model spec's had been picked so you would want to upgrade to a higher model when compared to what yer had before spec wise. Higher the model the more it costs. Reversing camera and sat nav type items not included where they thought they should be on the range etc. Also the general price went up a bit compared to a FL2. Not including the 10% discount on new FL2's during the last 6 months of build of the run out models.

The DS has had some problems and owners have been able to reject them for ticking because of frame welding problems. Some owners feel the interior materials used are not as hard wearing when comparing those used a FL2. I guess when buying a £30k+ car you want things done right. But i sometimes wonder what peeps eggspect from a new car for that price. 9 gears on the auto compared to 6 on the FL2. Some owners complained about too frequent gear changes. I guess it was just picking the more optimal gear for efficiency and/or demand.

For what they are they're a good vehicle. Used market prices are coming down. Tis a shame the FL2 stopped. The DS kind of took over that market of sales but lr at the time said the DS was aimed at a different market.

Thank you sir! It is a dear shame they stopped making the fl2 when they did, and it was a nice experience when we test drove one, Id be looking at buying a 2 to 3 year old DS hence the worry but I guess it’s luck of the draw, we have a certain small Jap suv currently and it’s the biggest pile of manure, had a new engine at 20.000 miles and loads of other stuff gone wrong or broke
