Discovery series 2

I have my choices down to two USA Disco's they are both the similar specs and condition. One is a 2002 SE with 88000 miles on the other 2003 with 122000 miles which would be the better buy? Is the 2003 model that much better than the 2002 were there lots of changes or was it cosmetic.

122000 or 88000 miles? ermm let me think

A good older one with lower mileage should be a better buy, but it does depend on how it has been treated and serviced.

The higher-mileage one could have been doing freeway driving, while the lower mileage one could have been round the streets all the time.

Check the service history, the one that has the most complete record and has them all from the same dealer is the one I would tend to lean towards.

What's the difference in prices?

Agree with above. Go for overall condition, and obvious tender loving care. A well looked after Disco is better than an abused Disco...

2003 is $1000 higher but maybe able to haggle? both fsh both have owned for about 6 years?

It's difficult to say without seeing both and comparing back to back, it doesnt really make sence the 2003 is $1000 more, yet only 1 year newer and done well over the 100k marker... unless the 2002 is very well priced.

If it's a good'un i'd go for the 2002

Ok well i'll let you know how i get on, chatting on here has sorta confirmed what i was thinking

I am still trying to work out the changes on the 2003 models was it just the head lights and front bumper or was it more major than than?

There were apparently over 300 engineering changes as well

If the service histories are good on both vehicles, I would negotiate hard to get the $1000 off the 2003 car and go for that.

My reasoning is that both cars will do a good job, 122,000mls for a modern engine well looked after is nothing, but the evolved nature of the post 2003 "facelift" cars is worth having.

2003/04 Discoveries are some of the best out there, imo.
