Ashcroft will be able to offer up almost any combo if you ask them (even if it never was available from the factory). They know their stuff better than probably any others.

Re: the centre diff, if this is open you will need to drive the front wheels, if you have freewheeling hubs you won't go anywhere. It'd be the same affect as busting the front prop on a Defender/Disco. Engage diff lock and it'll drive the rear wheels, but open you'll just sit there spinning the output shaft with the least resistance.

i know thet know their stuff ,but its not specific to them its quite common knowledge or at least certainly was, the ability to have stuff made for you at reasonable costs is not something all can do and relatively recent especially with gears etc,the center diff kit for instance was something a lot were using from free wheeling hub kits before ashcrofts adopted it , driving in difflock would be no different than driving in high or low ,the diff lock dog teeth are very strong

James you mean the selector adaptor ?

Could make one of them on the lathe easily if I can get hold of the selector for the top and knew what to do once turned off

Kinda get what he's on about, presume that bolts to the rear of the selector shaft in the box and then I simply assemble with the def top ?

Trying to visulaise it now and how it would fit on without moving too much as theres only one bolt hole there for securing it to the shaft or am I missing something ?

right so I know where it goes now but the question still remains, how would it fit properly ?

From looking at the pics I presume you weld the yolk onto that piece you turn on the lathe then bolt that to the selector shaft ?

Yeah I saw that bit too, was still a little unsure though

So essentially it extends the rear of the selector shaft so it can be moved forwards ? Or it extends the mounting point for the gear selector so you can fit a fender top ?

Was just wondering if one bolt could take it but if it can I will attempt to make one up on Friday

disco shaft is shorter than defender one because yoke sticks backwards ,so it just makes up this distance imagine spigot with the def quadrant on it

Ahhh :) makes sense now!

Workshop time on Friday methinks :D got some spare 50mm bar so will knock a few out. You got any idea on the thread ? May make it worthwhile by turning a few off to sell and use the mechanical tap with the radial arm as I'm lazy
