Fired up a D3 this morning for the first time in 18 months it fired up and ran for ten seconds then stopped and wont re-start when i fitted a clear Schrader valve and bled again there didn't seem to be much flow when running the pump (which is making a noise) i then disconnected the hard lines and connected the lines flow and return with a clear pipe the diesel wouldn't climb 8" should be 0.5 bar going to change the fuel filter today but it must be fuel pump?

have heard that if air gets into the system it can take a while to bleed the system , good call as u say in replacing the filter , particularly seeing it’s sat a while , is ur fuel also ok plse , have u also tried cycling the key on/off 2-3 times

hope all goes well and plse let us know how u get on and don’t have to replace the LPFP in the tank

Forgot to mention after 18 month approx. every thing has come back to life even the sat nav so at least it knows where it is

don’t tell me it’s not lost but doesn’t know where it is, sorry couldn’t resist, lol

fingers crossed and great news the systems came back to life ,hope all goes well

thanks mate yes did the ignition on and off very little flow but have that gut feeling with 3ft of clear hose linking the hard lines i would have thought you would have quite a bit of flow forgot about the fuel filter will do that after another cup of tea

fingers crossed mate , particularly after all ur hard work I imagine it will be a great time to celebrate

changed filter no difference no pressure from tank ordered a pump ten minutes ago fuel looked clean when i re-primed the pump started getting louder and will only lift fuel about 4" up a clear pipe well at least i will learn all about fuel tanks lol also have a small water leak on right on side

Measure the current across the fuel pump relay socket.
The fuel pump should draw 6 to 10 Amps, anything less would point to the pump being fubar. You could try thumping the bottom of the tank to see if the pump comes to life for a while.
Oh and fuel flow should be fast, as the pump supplies about 35 PSI.

Iirc in tank pump elec supply plug is in NSF wheel arch and can corrode, might be worth a gander.

When I mentioned fuel filter I should have said it is possible to get the pipes mixed up, this may be the cause of noisy pump and lack of fuel?

Yes checked all lines now fitted new LP pump ordered a fuel pressure gauge arrived today it has 0.6 bar of pressure to the HP pump, so jury rigged an old injector pipe to a tube and ran it into a bottle very little pressure so connected my pressure gauge to the pipe ( I know) when cranking fuel rail pressure is 10 bar looking for pump
