Hi all, I know there's loads of other boot floor threads but I couldn't find some info, I'm looking to replace the 2 floor side panels, but I don't know how to fix them in place? Because isn't most of it just sealed using that ****y body seal stuff? Basically has any one welded the side panels in? Or how did you do it? Any help or advice/pictures will be Much appreciated :) thanks

They are welded and then sealed up.

So I take it the breath thing to do would be grind the sealant off then just weld back on? Is it worth resealing after? Cheers

Haha sorry I ment after grinding the sealant off weld the panel in then seal it back over again or will it be fine to just rust proof it and paint it? Thanks :)

Sealant normally peels / scrapes off, grinding it just chokes the disk

seal after welding, to keep the water out from underneath ...

sealant should stay flexible after application, so use https://www.google.co.uk/webhp?tab=ww&ei=7RLRVIqjBsup7Aan-oEg&ved=0CAoQ1S4#q=sikaflex&tbm=shop

or

type stuff ...

The side panel braces the inner quarter panel which secures the rear seatbelt real so you gotta weld them. Has to be a seam weld according to mot book. Check out yrm website for pics. Sikaflex will cover **** welds :D I would then use hammerite over top as it etches rusty metal slightly.
Take care not to get hot spatter on plastic fuel tank and blank off front of car to stop grinding dust wrecking your electrics. Good luck

Yep needs to be sealed really.
Also might be worth resealing the rear quarter windows and alpine lights as that is most likely the cause of the rust in the first place.
