Hey up folks, it’s been a while since I’ve been on here and previously the questions were defender based. I’ve still got my old defender but current problem is on my discovery 4. The rear wheel bearings were shot so I bought up a new genuine hub with bushes (old one not worth sorting) and I’ve just pressed in new bearings and the new hub. The assemble isn’t on the car yet but there is an awful lot of play on the new setup ! Is this normal before fitting and torquing up the axle nut ??? Cheers in advance folks :)

Ive not done a rear one but would hazard a guess it doesnt sound quite right.
Can you get some studding and large washers and apply some effort to both sides by squishing them togther with the studding o see if the play goes away?

Thanks for the reply. The play completely disappeared once it was torqued up fully so it’s all nicely back together and sorted. It was quite straightforward and a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. Usually its the opposite !

out of curiosity... how much torque did you apply? ... i hope at least as in the book which means 230 NM otherwise that hub might not last too much

Plus 1 @sierrafery is correct , should be 230 Nm
i have been searching for the torque setting and found conflicting info 230nm to 420nm contacted a friend with access to auto data and confirmed 420nm on up to date auto data can you confirm the source the 230nm fig comes from please I just want to be sure i use the right setting.

Page 13 in attachment, from LR workshop manual which IMO should be the source of such info not auto-data

230nm is correct according to LR, which means 420nm is incorrect. ;)

sarrafery, you posted the front hub I thought Jake9999 was doing the rear bearings not the front ones

You are right, i missed that i just wanted to show where i've got the 230Nm from , for rear it's 275 ... though the gist of my reply was to check the WSM always and not rely on other data or forum posts.
