Discovery 3 purchase

Hi Folks I am considering buying a Discovery 3 diesel is there any particular faults they suffer from ,I’ve noticed that there appears to be 2 engine types the 2.7 V6 and the 3 litre V6 which is likely to be the most reliable and is one particular engine easier to work on .Sorry about the questions but I can’t get out and compare cars for sale at the moment with the Covid regulations?.

Stick "buyers guide" in the search bar in the disco section and you will have plenty of bed time reading

99.9999 percent of them are the 2.7 diesels, disco 4 had the 3.0 diesel.

Suspension faults, electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical.

General electrical faults, mostly due to water ingress into connectors, and damaged cables.

Electronic Parking Brake (EPB), both mechanical and electrical, the former normally due to lack of maintenance/correct adjustment.

The steering column can go stiff, causing stiff steering.

The column mounted steering angle sensor can get damaged, causing the DSP to activate when driving normally.

The engine commonly suffers slipped timing belts (the idler bracket on the oil pump fails), injector faults, EGR valve issues and crankshaft failure.

And the older D3s are now beginning to see rust form on places like sills and body mounts.

That's the most serious iirc.

There's a whole load of lesser problems too, although normally pretty easy to sort.

Lol. I loved mine, but got tired of keeping up with the repairs, so sold it and returned to Freelander ownership.

There's a lot of vehicle for the money, but it's best too keep a sizable contingency fund available, just in case.
