Discovery 3 problem solved?

Hi guys, some of you may have read my link's on other page's, about my LR TDV6S, i had some deep thought and delay on a new d3, but i thought with 3 year's warranty, how could i go wrong, so in december 2005 i picked my new car up! and from day one had dinging and flashing light's for the suspension mainly, (prior to delivery i had see all these warning's in landy zone forum's) so we took the car back to our local dealer numerous time's, they said try that, try this, by early feb i had just had enough, so i rang them and said look, i want you to give me a car of the same level as mine, and i don't want mine back until you KNOW mine is fixed.(they gave us a HSE RR SPORT very nice ) Three days later they rang and said our car was ready, lr have some new software that lr would send to TRY, and whoopee!! IT'S WORKED. One of the other thing's was the mpg was not good at all, now with 3000 mile's on it's back, its about 20mpg round town, which for a 2.7 ton car is not that bad , so in summary i think that my car is top mark's. Me and my family just come back from florida and we had a dodge durango suv, it's a nice car but since we got home i just want to drive my car, so to sum up, if you have or are getting a d3, stick with it cos they are sorting them, as the problem's are arising. yup alot of the problems have been software issues which are slowly being rectified, the niggly suspension and engine faults will soon be no more

Its a shame that LR always seem to push new trucks onto the market too early,the number of Software upgrade discs I have been sent explains the frantic activity to sort it all out !

Good news bigcol. My fingers are crossed for you, but you'll forgive me if I don't hold my breath as well! I'm still very concerned about what sort of state the electrics on these d3s will be in at 6+ years old. Do we think that farmers etc and people who need these vehicles for hard work will still be able to hack around and rely on them as they get older? I'm hoping so, but not particularly optimistic!
I'm in the market at the moment, but finding it very hard not to think about a Toyota Landcruiser instead. Unfortunately I remain to be convinced about the D3.

I had the pleasure of seeing a D3 up close the other day when a guy on his way through town stayed with us. Him and his mates in their tojos had just come through the kimberly mountains and the D3 was the main vehicle that had to save/rescue/support all the others. I got a good look around the beastie that was loaded to the gunnels and still felt as smooth as silk while taking off. I was very disappointed when I looked under the bonnet though. All I got to see were acres of plastic cowling and covering, couldnt see any of the "guy" bits at all!!!
The Missus was really taken with the cup holders in the dash and the doors, and I liked the dial up suspension on the consol.
The shape seems to be growing on me but the departure angle worries me a bit.
The other thing I wonder about is like one of the other guys said. My D2 worries me enough being this far away from civilisation never mind all the extra electronics on the D3 in a few years time.

I would just like to say hello and thanx to you guy's for reading, and to tell you that if i where a farmer or if outback want's a lr without all the bit's that go wrong just get a basic 5 seater. The d3 start at what lr call a 5, that's cos it's only got 5 seat's and it is on spring's, where as the 7,S,SE,and HSE all have air suspension, that seem's to be thee biggist problem, when your d2 came was first launched outback they had load's of problem's with the d2's, but i had a 1999 GS till dec 2005, people said it would let me down, and they where right, i had no end of trouble whilst the car was under lr warranty, but after three year's i never had a problem with it , and i must confess i was very sad to see it go, but my new car is ace, and if you speak to peple who have had or have got toyota landcruiser's they are not without problem's, the only thing with lr part's readyly available and cheap, i know this is no good to you outback being mile's from your dealer but its handy for us 5 miles away, only thing i can say is give it another year or so and buy a second hand one . never under estimate the importance of cup holders and decent coffee to a woman

I offered to show a female once my version of "cup holders", but she wasnt impressed.

Too true.... and she also fell in love with the handbag hook on the left side of the transmission tunnel/centre console!!!!

(I have to admit to liking the little compass in the rear vision mirror and the external temperature readout!...Shhhhhhh)
