Hi hope some one can help I am now. Owner of a discovery 3 2009 hse
Runs great but have one problem in that it judders on pull away while it’s doing this I notice that the revs are hunting between say 2000-2500 even if I’m
On motorway I notice the revs going up and down a bit of I slowly accelerate
But this is the problem when i test drove it it didn’t do it seems as it does it once warm well it gets worse once warm
I have been reading on google that a superflush of the gearbox would help it any feedback would be appreciated
Oh it sounds a 6 speed auto with 174000 on the clock thanks very much
I’m
Sure I be on here a bit now I own one lol

Yea mate was reading that as well but loads of people were saying get the oil flushed first as it’s cheaper and dose cure it a lot of times and I would be best to have it flushed anyway even if after I had to change the torque converter just wondered what members thought on oil flushes
Place I looked at charge 260 and you can sit there and watch them do it

if the car has reached the stage where its juddering, in my opinion its to late for a flush, it cant fix a mechanical problem, I know some after having them flushed report an improvement but generally its short lived, and the money would be better put towards fixing the problem properly before it damages the gearbox.

Do you think the money would be better spent then on a new torque converter
I’m hopeing I can change myself as I have done many gearbox’s and engine changing over the years but never a auto-box
Have read many posts and seems doable hardest part seems to be top bolts
Can get a recon torque converter with updates Kevlar friction plates for 300 a tad more than a flush

just reading this i tend to agree with @johnlad ref the torque converter failing, seeing the engine is also hunting on the revs

@James1974 normally when it’s flushed some Dr tranny is added

however as it’s got to this stage i imagine the damage has been already done and it may also be a good idea to do the sump plate filter conversion at the same time when the TC is replaced

have u had a second opinion on this , how long have u owned it plse

assume all the belts and oil pump cover has also been done

found a pic of the gear-lever assembly , something about a privet that wears out

Doesn’t throw a code, but does stop box from engaging properly, so gives intermittent drive

cheers , just been rereading a thread ref the pivot , must admit does sound like the tc gone

maybe 2 x tubes of Dr tranny might save it for a while , but sounds like it’s gone too far

maybe a specialist maybe the way to go

Just wondering how hard it is to replace and get gearbox off
or how much a garage would charge to replace it for me labour only if I get the torque converter
Don’t sound like there anything wrong with the box it’s self though

Had it since Monday lol
And it had belts done at 60000 but carnt find no reference since so well over due I have ordered new belts and tentioners am not driving it till I done them no
Will check oil pump while it’s off to see if it’s the old brittle one or the upgraded one as I have done a lot of reading and seen horror story’s of the tentioner on them snapping off

Just don’t know if it’s worth spending 260 on a flush when a good recon converter is 300 I have changed many engines and boxes just never a auto

thks, did u buy it from a garage as if u did i would be throwing it back at them, good call in not using it until u can find out about the belts etc , they are done every 7 x years or 105,000 miles

as you’ve just got it and a daft question but has the oil been checked and to ensure it’s at the correct level and what kind of condition it’s in

u may be heading towards a good few grand , if the belts , oil pump , TC req doing

has it by chance been on a diagnostic reader
